“One of Mr. Aid’s most significant findings, which became publicly known in 2005, was an NSA coverup of erroneous records related to the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin incident, in which US officials alleged that North Vietnamese torpedo boats twice fired on US Navy ships. A report written by an agency historian in 2001 noted that US intelligence officers falsified documents about a disputed attack, but that fact was suppressed.”

UPDATE (September 13 2018)  — According to three unidentified U.S. officials and two other people briefed on the probe, Russia is the main suspect in the U.S. agencies’ investigation of mysterious illnesses in American personnel in Cuba and China. According to NBC, the U.S. military is trying to reverse-engineer the weapon used to harm the diplomats.

I was the first person to suggest that the mysterious illness had been caused by “microwave attacks” and I still believe it to be true. Nevertheless, the towers themselves indeed loom over the series, which is no less gripping because we know where it’s headed. To the contrary, tension builds like heat in a pressure cooker as the FBI and the CIA take radically different and conflicting approaches to mitigating the threat from al-Qaida. [Guardian]
