Remembering Navy Cryptanalyst Agnes Meyer Driscoll (July 24, 1889 – September 16, 1971)

“Once the pursuit of truth begins to haunt the mind, it becomes an ideal never wholly attained.”

“We can never achieve absolute truth but we can live hopefully by a system of calculated probabilities.”

Agnes Meyer Driscoll

“In her thirty-year career, Mrs. Driscoll broke Japanese Navy manual codes — the Red Book Code in the 1920s, the Blue Book Code in 1930, and, in 1940, she made critical inroads into JN-25, the Japanese fleet’s operational code, which the U.S. Navy exploited after the attack on Pearl Harbor for the rest of the Pacific War.”

Two Years Ago — Radio Pyongyang Resurrects “NUMBERS STATION”

“Some are worried it signals that North Korean might be planning some type of operation, alerting its spies by sending the coded broadcast. But for that to be true, North Korean agents would have had to have been listening at the right time to take down the message, and how would they have known it was coming?

Numbers haven’t been broadcast for 16 years, so have agents really spent the last decade and a half listening just in case something came across? It is possible they could have been alerted that such a message was about to be broadcast, but then when why not send the message contents over whatever communications channel was used for such an alert?”

Martyn Williams — 38 North

The broadcast on July 15 2016 was the first number sequence aired by Pyongyang in over 16 years. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

Lockerbie — When Will The Truth Come Out ?

“The Lockerbie trial is the most disgraceful miscarriage of justice in Scotland for 100 years. Every lawyer who has read the judgment says ‘this is nonsense’. It is nonsense.”

Acting CIA Inspector General Quits

“CIA is grateful to Acting Inspector General Chris Sharpley for his service to the Agency, including his work to professionalize the Office of Inspector General. After three decades of public service, he has decided to continue his career outside the Agency, and we wish him the best in this new chapter. CIA’s commitment to rigorous, independent oversight is unwavering, and the Office of Inspector General will carry on that important mission through the transition.”
CIA spokesperson
“Christopher Sharpley is not the permanent Inspector General because of brave whistleblowers willing to publicize his office’s problems. In a community clouded by darkness, these whistleblowers provided a light and made a difference. We’re looking forward to the President confirming an independent replacement with integrity. It’s time for someone to right the ship.”
Irvin McCullough — National security analyst for the Government Accountability Project

Christopher Sharpley — Acting CIA Inspector General

The Acting CIA Inspector General is retiring amid allegations against him. Yesterday, I told you that the CIA is trying to hide the biggest scandal in US history since IranGate. Today, the CIA IG retired. Freaky coincidence? Follow us on Twitter: @Intel_Today Continue reading

US Colonel Ann Wright : “Beware of White Helmets Bearing News”

“The White Helmets is a fake organization that exists only to create propaganda for jihadists and terrorists. That’s my belief. We have opposing beliefs. If we were to listen to the propaganda of the White Helmets and others, we would be encouraged to encourage our governments to start dropping bombs on people in Syria. This would be a mistake of monumental proportions for us as human beings.”

Roger Waters — Singer and activist

“The celebrated White Helmets of Oscar fame appeared to have made their own feature film in Duma on the night of the alleged chemical attack.”

Consortium News — April 21 2018

“At the center of the controversy over an alleged chemical attack in the Damascus suburb of Duma on April 7 are the White Helmets, a self-described rescue operation about whom an Oscar-winning documentary was made.” Obviously, former US colonel Ann Wright does not trust the ‘White Helmets’ story. Former CIA Jerry Lee Case — Why the Disinformation?

“Lee, a former CIA case officer, allegedly conspired to provide information to the Chinese government about the national defense of the United States.  Lee’s alleged actions betrayed the American people and his former colleagues at the CIA.  We will not tolerate such threats to our country or its national security.”

Assistant Attorney General Demers — May 8, 2018

Former CIA officer Jerry Lee is charged with “Conspiracy to gather or deliver Defense Information to aid a Foreign Government.” But several media have reported that Lee has been charged for passing classified information which helped the Chinese government dismantle a US spy network. This is simply disinformation. But ask yourself a simple question: Why the lies? What is the CIA trying to hide here? Whatever it is, I promise you that the hidden story is big and ugly. Norway & Russia– Former Border Inspector Behind Bars in Moscow on Charges of Espionage [UPDATE II]

“Frode must come home, and Norwegian authorities must do what they can to get him out. It is not a good signal when such a positive and distinguished bridge-builder like Frode is arrested, it is not a good sign.”

Kirkenes town Mayor Rune Rafaelsen

“Once again we see the effects of big politics hitting us here locally, and we demand an end to that!”

Father Torbjørn Brox Webber

“I would not characterise the case as a global attack on bilateral relations. We have a relationship with Norway which develops in different areas. These kind of things happen, and it is uncomfortable, [but] our national legislation provides for adequate measures.”

Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (December 28 2017)

February 6 2018 — Frode Berg, a 62 retired border inspector, was arrested by Russian security service agents in downtown Moscow on December 5th 2017. He is jailed  in isolation at the high-security Lefortovo prison.

On February 2, the Lefortovo District Court in Moscow  ordered that Frode Berg should remain in jail until May 5 2018. Berg was allegedly caught receiving classified material about the Russian Navy that he is accused of planning to hand over to Norwegian and U.S. intelligence agencies. He denies the charges.

Update I (April 23 2018) — Berg broke his silence and now claims that he was duped into working for Norway’s national intelligence agency. Update II (July 18 2018) — On Wednesday (July 18 2018), Lefortovsky district court in Moscow prolonged Berg’s custody period until September 18 2018. ECHR — Russia Failed to Investigate Anna Politkovskaya Murder

“Who killed Anna and who lay beyond her killer remains unknown. Her murder robbed too many of us of absolutely vital sources of information and contact. Yet it may, ultimately, be seen to have at least helped prepare the way for the unmasking of the dark forces at the heart of Russia’s current being.”

Jon Snow — News anchor for UK Channel 4

“(TS//SI/REL TO USA, AUS, CAN, GBR, NZL) Russian Federal Intelligence Services (probably FSB) are known to have targeted the webmail account of the murdered Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya. On 5 December 2005, RFIS initiated an attack against the account annapolitovskaya@US Provider1, by deploying malicious software which is not available in the public domain. It is not known whether the attack is in any way associated with the death of the journalist.”

Anna Politkovskaya (August 30, 1958, New York City — Assassinated: October 7, 2006, Moscow)

ECHR July 17 2018 — The European Court of Human Rights held, by five votes to two, that there had been a violation of Article 2 (right to life) of the European Convention on Human Rights in a case concerning the investigation into the 2006 murder of journalist Anna Politkovskaya. Remembering Dr David Kelly (May 14, 1944 – July 17, 2003)

“Some people are natural conspiracy theorists. I’m not. Maybe this is a weakness — an indication of a readiness to accept the official version of events and not to see evil plots lurking in the background. But after reading Miles Goslett’s masterful book about the supposed suicide of the weapons expert Dr David Kelly in 2003, I am more persuaded than ever that the authorities have not told us the whole truth about this tragic case.”

Stephen Glover — April 28 2018

“We have lots of evidence … No coroner in the land would reach a verdict of suicide as Lord Hutton did.”

Dr Stephen Frost

“After Kelly had committed suicide, one of the things that kept the whole thing going was Andrew [Gilligan]’s assurance that this was absolutely what Kelly had told him. It wasn’t until the Hutton inquiry itself that Andrew [Gilligan] finally conceded that this might not have been the case. (…) But it is sad that ten years on, we are still seeing a determination to shoot the messenger when scandals are exposed, rather than dealing with the substantive points raised.”

Dominic Ponsford (July 2013)

The death of Dr David Kelly in 2003 is one of the strangest events in recent British history. This scrupulous scientist — an expert on weapons of mass destruction — was caught up in the rush to war in Iraq. He felt under pressure from those around Tony Blair to provide evidence that Saddam Hussein was producing weapons of mass destruction. Dr Kelly seemed to have tipped into sudden depression when he was outed as a source for Andrew Gilligan. I do not know whether Kelly committed suicide or whether  he was suicided. Either way, it is rather obvious that Tony Blair is responsible for his death. Yet, it is Kelly who wrote Blair’s epitaph: “Here lies a liar.” Follow us on Twitter: @Intel_Today Continue reading

Salisbury Incident — The Russian Report (by Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko )

“The issue surrounding the identify [sic] of a former MI6 informer Sergei Skripal is already widely available in the public domain. However, the identifies [sic] of intelligence agency personnel associated with Sergei Skripal are not yet widely available in the public domain.”

D-Notice issued on March 7 2018

“If the Russians had wanted to kill him, they had ample opportunity to do so during the years when he was imprisoned or the eight years he lived in retirement in Salisbury. If they did wish to kill him, it is not a very credible that they would do so very publicly and by a means that could not be bought off the shelf in the local pharmacy. The handling and the administering of these very dangerous substances require professional expertise. The obvious candidates for the attempted murder are therefore government agencies, but which government is the unanswered question.”

James O’Neill — Barrister at Law and geopolitical analyst

On 4 March 2018, Sergei and Yulia Skripal were reportedly poisoned with a nerve agent in Salisbury, Wiltshire. The UK government accused the Russian state of being responsible for the poisoning. Russia denied any involvement. The incident caused major international repercussions, bringing Russia-UK and Russia-West relations to a new low. Yet details of what happened remain unclear.  Follow us on Twitter: @Intel_Today Continue reading
