Breaking News — General Michael Hayden at Death’s Door

“General Hayden is receiving expert medical care for which the family is grateful. As he begins the healing process, the family requests that their privacy be respect. The General and his family greatly appreciate the warm wishes and prayers of his friends, colleagues, and supporters.”

George Mason University’s Michael V. Hayden Center for Intelligence, Policy, and International Security

General Michael Hayden, a former CIA and National Security Agency director, was rushed to hospital this week after suffering from a stroke. Hayden may survive but he is definitely out of the picture. This is very sad news. Hayden is no angel. But I consider him as the most intelligent/honest critic of the system. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

Remembering CIA Leslianne Shedd (September 15 1968 – November 23 1996)

“Leslianne received a star on the CIA Memorial Wall in 1996 and was posthumously awarded the Agency’s Exceptional Service medallion. Her name was unveiled in the Book of Honor in 2012.”

CIA Website — Remembering CIA’s Heroes

“Leslianne Shedd—a young, courageous, highly successful CIA operations officer serving in East Africa—was a passenger on an Ethiopian Airlines flight when it was hijacked and then crashed into the Indian Ocean on November 23, 1996, killing 125 people, including Leslianne. Survivors said that Leslianne spent her final moments comforting those around her.”

CIA Tweet (November 23 2016)

“When my sister Leslianne Shedd, ’90, was killed in the 1996 crash of a hijacked Ethiopian Airlines plane, my family not only went into mourning. We also continued to keep a secret: Leslianne didn’t work for the U.S. State Department, as she told everyone. She worked for the CIA, fighting terrorism in Africa.  When Lesli (right) was killed, there was a private memorial ceremony at CIA headquarters at Langley. Then in May of the following year, she was given an anonymous star on the CIA Wall of Honor. The CIA told us that at some point, we would be able to talk about her.”

Corinne Collie

The Memorial Wall is a memorial at the Central Intelligence Agency headquarters in Langley, Virginia. It honors CIA employees who died in the line of service. There are 129 stars carved into the white Alabama marble wall. At least ten represent women.

Leslianne Shedd was killed on November 23, 1996. She was a passenger on a hijacked Ethiopian Airlines plane that crashed in the Indian Ocean near the Comoro Islands. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY

One Year Ago — What hides behind German BND Boss public Statements about Russia?

“The fact that representatives of the special services and the military openly intervene in the coalition negotiations that have not yet ended is a wake-up call. Because, given the role of the Reichswehr and the special services in the end of the Weimar Republic and Hitler’s rise to power, the principle of their submission to civil authorities was strictly observed in modern Germany, at least on paper. Today this tradition has been broken.”

Peter Schwarz — Linke Zeitung

November 22 2017 — The head of BND, known for traditionally avoiding publicity, spoke very harshly about the ‘Russian threat’ recently. BERLIN (Reuters) – Germany’s spy chief has warned that Russia should be seen as a “potential danger” rather than as a partner in building European security and said its big military exercise in summer showed an alarmingly high level of modernisation in its armed forces. Who Is Who in World Intelligence and Security Agencies : GRU Igor Korobov ( 3 August 1956 – 21 November 2018) [UPDATE]

“From the first, it was clear that all the main stakeholders — Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Chief of the General Staff Valeri Gerasimov, and the GRU hierarchy itself — favored the promotion of one of Sergun’s depties: Vyacheslav Kondrashev, Sergei Sizunov, Igor Lelin, and Igor Korobov. Of them all, Korobov, head of the Strategic Intelligence Directorate (USR: Upravlenie strategicheskoi razvedky) was clearly the front-runner.

Mark Galeoti–  9 February 2016

“The loving memory of this wonderful person, a true son of Russia, a patriot of the Fatherland Colonel-General Igor Valentinovich Korobov will always be in our hearts.”

Russia Ministry of Defence (November 22 2018)

January 9 2017 — Lieutenant-General Igor Valentinovich Korobov is the current Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the Russian Federation. Exclusive — MEBO Owner Edwin Bollier : “I Have Never Visited Togo”

“Bollier had more ‘get out of jail free cards’ than a Monopoly game!”

Richard Marquise — Head of the FBI investigation into the Lockerbie bombing

“It turned out that the CIA was ‘fortunately’ in possession of such a MST-13 timer (also known as K1) which had been allegedly brought back to the US by some US Government employees following a visit to Togo in the fall of 1986. (…)

If the CIA wanted to frame Libya, Bollier was the perfect ‘target’ and PT/35(b) — the infamous fragment of a MST-13 timer found at Lockerbie — was the perfect ‘evidence’ to plant. I believe that this is exactly what happened.”

INTEL TODAY — The Fairy Tale of the Togo Timers

“If we were going to libel him [Edwin Bollier] we would have done so, these issues have been considered. The decision not to include him as a co-conspirator is not a recognition that he has nothing to do with the matter. The extent of his involvement is yet to be developed in evidence. It may be he has involvement in what occurred, but unless the Crown is able to adduce evidence that places him in the conspiracy, it is not appropriate to libel him as a co-conspirator.”

Alan Turnbull QC — Prosecuting Counsel at the Lockerbie Trial

“Of course, I still care about this appalling miscarriage of justice [Lockerbie].  My view is that Bollier was a CIA agent. That is still my view based on my personal experience.”

Paul Harris — Email to Intel Today (November 16 2017)

As a discouragement to the prosecution, Bollier is alleged to have let it be known before the start of the trial that if he were to be charged for the PA 103 bombing he would call some high-ranking and controversial witnesses to appear, for example: former United States President George H. W. Bush, Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North and Gerrit Pretorius, private secretary to South Africa’s former foreign minister Pik Botha. [Wikipedia]

On Wednesday (November 21 2018), I posted a piece regarding the mysterious story of the MEBO MST-13 timers which appeared in Togo during an attempted Coup in the fall of 1986. The story prompted a disturbing comment from Edwin Bollier, the owner of the MEBO company which produced and delivered these timers to Libya. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

On This Day — Sir Arthur Conan Doyle : “The Adventure of the Dying Detective” (November 22 1913)

“The mention of my friend’s name had an extraordinary effect upon the little man. The look of anger passed in an instant from his face. His features became tense and alert.”

Dr. Watson — The Adventure of the Dying Detective (1913)

Amateur criminologist William Roughead published his Trial of Oscar Slater, highlighting flaws in the prosecution. The book convinced many influential people included Sir Edward Marshall Hall, Ramsay MacDonald, Viscount Buckmaster; and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. In 1912, Conan Doyle published The Case of Oscar Slater, a plea for a full pardon for Slater. Following years of campaigning and investigating from Conan Doyle, the Secretary of State for Scotland authorised Slater’s release on November 8, 1927

The Adventure of the Dying Detective is a short story written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle first published in the Collier’s magazine on November 22 1913 (US) and in The Strand Magazine in December 1913 (UK).  Follow us on Twitter; @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

Intelligence Matters — When Will China Overtake the U.S. Economy ?

“The projections suggest China’s gross domestic product will stand at US$26 trillion in 2030, up from US$14.1 trillion today. The U.S. meanwhile will see its GDP rise more slowly to US$25.2 trillion from US$20.4 trillion.”

Bloomberg News (September 25 2018)

“GDP, after all, is just population times productivity. The U.S. has long been the No. 1 economy with the No. 3 population because the productivity of our labor and capital has been so enormously greater than productivity in China or India. What’s happening, simple yet profound, is that other countries are catching up to our productivity. China and India still have a very long way to go, but obviously they needn’t match us to exceed our GDP; with populations over four times ours, they only need to achieve one-quarter of our productivity. That’s what they’re in the process of doing.”

Fortune (February 2017)

“Unlike the Cold War, it’s about who is going to be the global leader – first with the biggest economy, and out of that will come political influence. But then secondarily – who is the most innovative economy and creating the industries of the future. Ultimately it’s an economic and technological competition.”

Michael Vickers — Former Head of Pentagon Intelligence (November 21 2018)

China is on course to be the world’s biggest economy by 2030, according to analysis made by economists at HSBC Holdings Plc in a new study of 75 nations published in September 2018. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading
