CIA Molly Hale Just Answered Intel Today Question. Well, Not Really…

“To this day, Barbara [Robbins] is the youngest officer memorialized on our Wall. She was the first American woman to die in Vietnam and the first woman in our Agency’s history to make the ultimate sacrifice.  Nine women since then have fallen in service to our mission. Today we remember them all, with great love and great admiration.”

CIA Director Leon Panetta — Memorial Ceremony (2011)

“Dear Molly, Could you tell us how many stars on the Memorial Wall are known to represent women? Regards, Intel Today”

Question to Molly Hale (February 4 2019)

On February 4 2019, CIA Molly Hale went digital. I could not resist firing the very first question on Twitter! How many CIA women are honoured by a star on the CIA wall? Molly Hale’s answer is unfortunately horribly ambiguous. And in fact, almost completely useless. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

Lockerbie — When the Media Miss the Real Story

“Following the arrest of Dalkamoni and others […], it is possible to conclude that at least the core of the cell structure has been removed. It is not possible to say that all persons involved in the terrorist activities had been arrested.”

Germany — BKA Report (October 1988)

“How much of a coincidence is it that there are two investigations related to Lockerbie going on in Germany at the same time? I would say it is no coincidence and that the police enquiry with the ex-Stasi people is a spoiler to distract from the SCCRC investigation. it is also no coincidence that the Telegraph, the Mail and the Guardian are all reporting on the ex-Stasi investigation, while totally ignoring the SCCRC enquiry.”

Anonymous — Email to Intel Today (March 21 2019)

March 25 2019 — Last week various media reported that Scotland’s solicitor general, Alison Di Rollo QC, had approached  several state prosecutors across eastern Germany asking for “legal assistance” in order to question former Stasi officers about their knowledge of the Lockerbie Affair. However, not a single newspaper reported a less sensational but, in my opinion, far more important development in this thirty years old saga. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

Breaking News — Mueller Report : “No Collusion With Russia”

“I hope that Mr Trump is not impeached and removed from office before the end of his term. I don’t mean that Congress shouldn’t move ahead with the process of impeachment governed by our constitution, if Congress thinks the provable facts are there. I just hope it doesn’t. Because if Mr Trump were removed from office by Congress, a significant portion of this country would see this as a coup.”

Former FBI director James Comey (March 22 2019)

“The next steps are up to Attorney General Barr and we look forward to the process taking its course. The White House has not received or been briefed on the Special Counsel’s report.”

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders (March 22 2019)

“The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired or co-ordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.”

Special Counsel Robert Mueller

On This Day — Remembering Archbishop Oscar Romero (August 15, 1917 — Assassinated March 24, 1980)

“Let my blood be a seed of freedom and the sign that hope will soon be reality.”

“Between the powerful and the wealthy, and the poor and vulnerable, who should a pastor side with? I have no doubts. A pastor should stay with his people.”

Archbishop Oscar Romero

“His ministry was distinguished by his particular attention to the most poor and marginalized.”

Pope Francis

“There are clear [evidential] threads on who gave the original order and who paid for the murder that any concerted investigation in El Salvador would absolutely be able to gather enough evidence to prosecute those involved.”

Matt Eisenbrandt — Assassination of a Saint

March 24 2019 — Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez was a prelate of the Catholic Church who served as the fourth Archbishop of San Salvador. He spoke out against poverty, social injustice, assassinations, and torture. Romero was assassinated while offering Mass in the chapel of the Hospital of Divine Providence. No one was ever convicted for the crime. On October 14 2018, Archbishop Oscar Romero of San Salvador was proclaimed Saint. Follow us on Twitter: @Intel_Today Continue reading

One Year Ago — Russian Embassy : “We Definitely Need Poirot in Salisbury!”

“In absence of evidence, we definitely need Poirot in Salisbury!”

Russian Embassy in London — March 18 2018

“We actually have evidence within the last 10 years that Russia has not only been investigating the delivery of nerve agents for the purposes of assassination, but has also been creating and stockpiling Novichok.”

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson

“Before we set off on Cold War II with Russia — leading perhaps to the shooting war we avoided in Cold War I — let’s try to get this one right.”

Pat Buchanan — Former senior advisor to U.S. Presidents Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and Ronald Reagan

Hercule Poirot — here portrayed by David Suchet — is a fictional Belgian detective created by Agatha Christie.

Mach 23 2018 — Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson now claims that Russia has been stockpiling the nerve agent used in the attack on an ex-spy and his daughter for a decade. Johnson believes that Russian president Vladimir Putin directly ordered this assassination. Pat Buchanan — a former senior advisor to U.S. Presidents Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and Ronald Reagan — argues that this allegation is pure nonsense. Two Years Ago — Jeremy Fleming to succeed Robert Hannigan as GCHQ new Director

“Jeremy Fleming is a dedicated public servant whose work over two decades in the intelligence services has helped to keep our country safe. I congratulate Jeremy on his appointment as Director of GCHQ at an important time for the service. I know that he will continue the excellent work of Robert Hannigan in leading this outstanding organisation, when the skill and ingenuity of the UK intelligence community are critical to defending Britain from cyber-attacks, terror plots and other activities that threaten us and our allies.”

Norway & Russia — Former Border Inspector Behind Bars in Moscow on Charges of Espionage [UPDATE VII]

“Frode must come home, and Norwegian authorities must do what they can to get him out. It is not a good signal when such a positive and distinguished bridge-builder like Frode is arrested, it is not a good sign.”

Kirkenes town Mayor Rune Rafaelsen

“Once again we see the effects of big politics hitting us here locally, and we demand an end to that!”

Father Torbjørn Brox Webber

“I would not characterise the case as a global attack on bilateral relations. We have a relationship with Norway which develops in different areas. These kind of things happen, and it is uncomfortable, [but] our national legislation provides for adequate measures.”

Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (December 28 2017)

Frode Berg, a 62 retired border inspector, was arrested by Russian security service agents in downtown Moscow on December 5th 2017. He is jailed  in isolation at the high-security Lefortovo prison.

Berg was allegedly caught receiving classified material about the Russian Navy that he is accused of planning to hand over to Norwegian and U.S. intelligence agencies. Berg claims that he was duped into working for Norway’s national intelligence agency.

On October 30 2018, the Moscow City Court has upheld the expanded arrest until December 5 2018. On Friday (November 30 2018), the court decided to prolong his arrest for another two months. On January 30 2019, the Moscow City Court has extended Berg’s detention until April 5 2019. Follow us on Twitter: @Intel_Today Continue reading

Lockerbie — Why Are Former STASI Officers Being Questioned Today?

“I regard the Lockerbie verdict against Megrahi as a ‘Grand Monument to Human Stupidity’.  Indeed, the written opinion of the Lockerbie judges is a remarkable document that claims an ‘honoured place in the history of British miscarriages of justice.’ If the [SCCRC] Commission accepts the application for a full review, the infamous Zeist verdict doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of surviving.”

INTEL TODAY — July 5 2017

“During his 46-year rule, the Hashemite monarch was frequently accused by his enemies — Israeli and Arab alike — of being a CIA stooge. The agency became his paymaster in 1957, inheriting that role from the British: Hussein received $1 million a year until 1977, when President Carter ended the payments.”

TIME

Robert Mueller was assistant attorney general in the United States in 1991 when indictments were issued for the two Libyan suspects, Megrahi and Al-amin Khalifa Fimah. A young Mueller is explaining the importance of PT/35(b), a small fragment of a circuit timer that was allegedly found among the debris of Pan Am 103 near the town of Lockerbie. Today, we know that PT/35(b) is a forgery that was planted to blame Libya for the tragedy.

On This Day — Remembering the Brussels Attacks (March 22, 2016)

“With the usual reservations, it seems to indicate that Oussama Atar is dead and, importantly, that the judicial investigation continues. It is essential to continue to try to shed light on this dark affair.”

Georges Dallemagne — Belgian Federal representative (February 28, 2018)

“If not for the request by different organizations … Oussama Atar would still be in Iraqi prison.”

Jawad Al-Hindawi — Iraqi Ambassador to Belgium
