On This Day — The Intelligence Identities Protection Act (June 23 1982) [UPDATE : CIA wants new “covert agents” definition]

“The legislation ultimately will harm, not help, our national security interests (…)  If left to stand, it will curtail legitimate journalistic scrutiny of a particularly important and sensitive area of government, creating the possibility that wrongdoing or wrong-headedness could flourish in that area, unchecked by public awareness.”

Sen. Joseph R. Biden (D) of Delaware — Member of the US Senate’s Select Committee on Intelligence (April 6, 1982)

“If the changes advocated by the CIA are adopted, the law would indefinitely criminalize the disclosure of the identity of anyone with a classified relationship to an intelligence agency regardless of whether they have ever served abroad.”

Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press (July 2019)

Two Years Ago — Bad Science & Bad Scientists : IRA suspect Issues Apology for the Birmingham Pub Bombings

“Exactly the same forensic scientists who produced the wrongful conviction of Guiseppe Conlon, the Maguire family and of Danny McNamee, and had been stood down for the role they played. Yet here they were. Without them, there wouldn’t have been a prosecution, far less a conviction in Lockerbie. (…) What shocked me most was that I thought that all that had been gone through on Guildford and Birmingham, the one thing that had been achieved was that nobody would be convicted again on bad science. But yet in the Lockerbie case, it isn’t just the same bad science, it is the same bad scientists.”

Gareth Peirce — Solicitor for the Guildford Four and the Birmingham Six

In the Name of the Father is a 1993 Irish-British-American biographical courtroom drama film co-written and directed by Jim Sheridan. It is based on the true life story of the Guildford Four, four people falsely convicted of the 1974 IRA’s Guildford pub bombings, which killed four off-duty British soldiers and a civilian.

July 10 2017 — A self-confessed IRA bomb maker who has said he was part of the group responsible for the 1974 Birmingham pub bombings has issued an apology. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

The KRYPTOS Sculpture — New Clues from the CIA Website?

“I hope I have inspired some people to study the Kryptos puzzle and to give it a try. Even the parts of the code that already have been decrypted still have to be interpreted for their deeper meaning. There are many pieces to be put together and many layers to be peeled away.”

Two Years Ago — Sir John Chilcot : “Tony Blair Not Straight With UK Over Iraq”

“When I briefed Tony Blair, it was quite clear that he felt this was a necessity, that there was a just cause, that we had to do something about this. How he portrayed that politically… I do not think he played it very well.”

HUMOUR — “Vodka Martini. Shaken, Not Stirred” [2019]

5G — Belgium Postpones Spectrum Auction to 2020. And Maybe Later… Why? [UPDATE II]

“Perhaps, the most puzzling part of the Belgian Intelligence Services report is what it does not mention. Although most countries are extremely concerned about China investments in their Telecom infrastructure, the Belgian report is silent on this issue. Why, on earth, why?”

Intel Today – December 3 2018

“Brussels has now overtaken Vienna when it comes to the density of so-called intelligence services from outside the EU.”

Peter Gridling — Head of Austria’s domestic intelligence agency (June 2018)

January 29 2019 — During the Summer 2018, the Belgian federal government announced that the auction for the 5G frequency bands would take place in 2019. Suddenly, this auction is delayed to 2020, and perhaps later. Obviously, the deadline set by the EU for the distribution of 700 MHz frequencies (also known as the ‘Golden frequency band’), set for mid-2020, could be jeopardized. What is going on?
