For the first time since 2023, one star was added to the wall during the 2026 CIA Annual Ceremony 2026, bringing the total number to 141.

The identity of the Agency officer was not disclosed, and no information regarding the circumstances of his/her death was provided.

Although there is no reliable open-source lead pointing to a specific officer, theater, or incident, the recent death of a diplomat in Mexico appears shrouded in secrecy and certainly shares intriguing similarities with the circumstances surrounding the very first star on the CIA Memorial Wall: Douglas Seymour Mackiernan (April 25, 1913 — April 29, 1950).
