On This Day — US Surgeon General Report Links Tobacco and Cancer (January 11 1964) [Disinformation : Why does it work?]

“Global cigarette use seems to have peaked at about 6 trillion cigarettes sometime after the turn of the new millennium, but the deadly effects of this epidemic will still be felt for decades — even if global use continues to decline. Only about 100 million people died from smoking in the 20th century, whereas several times that are likely to die in the present century, even if current rates of smoking fall dramatically.”

Robert N. Proctor — History Department, Stanford University

January 11 2021 — On January 11 1964, a U.S. surgeon general’s report unequivocally linked tobacco products and lung cancer. Although scientists had established the link two decades earlier, the cigarette lobby worked hard to first dismiss and later downplay the evidence.

In 2019, scientists at the National Toxicology Program have discovered and reported clear evidence linking cellphone to cancer. Today, the Telecom Industry is pulling all the same old tricks the Tobacco lobby invented more than half a century ago. How long will it take for governments to act responsibly? “Exxon was aware of climate change, as early as 1977, 11 years before it became a public issue… This knowledge did not prevent the company from spending decades refusing to publicly acknowledge climate change and even promoting climate misinformation — an approach many have likened to the lies spread by the tobacco industry regarding the health risks of smoking.”

UPDATE (January 11 2022) — For decades, tobacco executives knew they were selling death, and yet they got away with their crimes. How was it possible?

First, they funded pseudo-scientific research to dismiss and later downplay the evidence. Secondly, they convinced governments that it was in their interests to encourage their population to smoke.

A 2001 report commissioned by Philip Morris’s Czech division addressed concerns raised by the Czech health ministry that smoking’s costs outweighed its fiscal benefits.

The study was conducted by Arthur D. Little and found that smokers’ early mortality and cigarette-tax revenue outweighed the costs of health-care and lost tax revenue from early death. The study concluded through cost-benefit analysis “based on up-to-date reliable data and consideration of all relevant contributing factors, the effect of smoking on the public finance balance in the Czech Republic in 1999 was positive. The same strategy has been used by the oil industry and many other powerful lobbies.

In the 1980s, oil companies like Exxon and Shell carried out internal assessments of the carbon dioxide released by fossil fuels, and forecast the planetary consequences of these emissions.

In 1982, for example, Exxon predicted that by about 2060, CO2 levels would reach around 560 parts per million – double the preindustrial level – and that this would push the planet’s average temperatures up by about 2°C over then-current levels (and even more compared to pre-industrial levels). In 1988, an internal report by Shell projected similar effects but also found that CO2 could double even earlier, by 2030. [Exxon’s study was leaked in 2015. Shell’s report, marked “confidential,” was disclosed by a Dutch news organization in 2018.]

Please, keep in mind that in these years, the CIA expected a new ice age! That is quite an Intelligence Agency…

Like the tobacco industry, Exxon and Shell were conscious that their products wouldn’t stay profitable once the world understood the risks, so much so that they used the same consultants to develop strategies on how to communicate with the public. Sugar: The sweet killer of your heart — Over the last half century, obesity rates have skyrocketed. In 1962, 46 percent of adults in the U.S. were considered overweight or obese. By 2010, that figure had jumped to 75 percent. And the pandemic is currently worsening obesity levels.

Obesity is a complex problem but the main cause is the high consumption of sugar. After his doctors told him to avoid sugar, president Dwight Eisenhower was seen putting saccharin in his coffee. [If you are a free thinker, do some research on Dwight Eisenhower, Cuba, and sugar quotas.]

The Sugar industry immediately launched a million dollar disinformation campaign arguing that sugar is not fattening. “There are no such things. All food supply calories and there is no difference between the calories that come from sugar or grapefruit.”

Overweight and obesity are major risk factors for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and lung disease. These diseases are the most commonly reported health conditions that predispose individuals with SARS-CoV-2 infection to require hospitalization including intensive care unit admissions. [Nature — Obesity, the most common comorbidity in SARS-CoV-2: is leptin the link?]

Eskimos have many words for snow and Japanese people have plenty of Kanji for seaweed. The CIA has a near-infinite vocabulary for gradations of failure.

Instead of putting a warning sign on their products, the sugar industry uses dozen aliases. When reading labels, keep an eye out for terms like corn sweetener, corn syrup, dextrose, fructose, glucose, high-fructose corn syrup, lactose, malt syrup, maltose, molasses, raw sugar and sucrose.

PS — I could go on and on…. But I will ask you to think about this. Would it surprise you to learn that the Telecom industry knew full well that 5G — mobile phones in general — is weakening the immune system and is causing cancer? Forty years from now, a leaked document will show that they knew all along. The governments also knew, but the effect of 5G on the public finance balance was positive… Why do you think that, despite a nearly infinite budget, the CIA is incapable of solving the ‘Havana Syndrome’ mystery? Think about that.

UPDATE (January 11 2021) — The National Academies of Sciences has concluded that microwave exposure is the most plausible mechanism in explaining the Havana Syndrome.

Part of their report reads:

“While much of the general public discussion on RF biological effects has focused on cancer, there is a growing amount of data demonstrating a variety of non-cancer effects as well, in addition to those associated with thermal heating.

Based on a review of these information sources, the committee finds that many of the acute, early phase symptoms and observations reported by DOS employees are consistent with RF effects, including a perceived clicking sound within the head even when the ears were covered, a perceived force/pressure sensation within the head and on the face, perceived spatial localization and directionality of these perceived phenomena and other loud sounds, hearing loss, tinnitus, impaired gait and loss of balance, as well as the absence of heating sensation and absence of observed disruption of electronic devices in the immediate environment.

In addition, many of the chronic, nonspecific symptoms are also consistent with known RF effects, such as dizziness, headache, fatigue, nausea, anxiety, cognitive deficits, and memory loss.”

In November 2020, an international briefing on RF health research, known as GLORE 2020, was held online featuring updates on the second phase of the U.S. National Toxicology Program (NTP) project and the Japanese-Korean partial repeat.

The WHO presented a status report on ten ongoing systematic reviews of RF health effects. Government and industry representatives from Australia, Canada, France, Japan, Korea, New Zealand and the U.S. participated, as did an assortment of academics.

The public was not invited. Everything about GLORE 2020 is being kept secret. So much for Democracy and Transparency!

PS — According to rumors, CIA Director Gina Haspel does not believe that microwave exposure is the cause of the Havana Syndrome. Who cares about the US National Academies of Sciences? Surely, the CIA — an agency recruiting its people from bottom tier colleges and universities — knows much better than a bunch of stupid Nobel Prizes!

End of UPDATE

“No foreign challenge has had a more direct impact on American families and communities…than the flow of opioids and other drugs into our country. That’s why the CIA is going to invest more heavily in our counter-narcotics effort abroad to combat this terrible threat, one that has killed far more Americans than any terrorist ever has.”

CIA Director Gina Haspel (September 24 2018)

UPDATE (January 11 2020) — In 2018, the U.S. National Toxicology Program (NTP)concluded that microwave radiation causes cancer.

This year, the NTP will begin a systematic search for mechanisms to explain how and why the tumors developed. [NTP Turns to Mechanisms — DNA Breaks, Oxidative Stress and

This year,  the World Health Organization (WHO) is reopening its review of the health effects of RF radiation for a summary report intended to serve as a benchmark for its more than 150 member countries.

The report will be used as a guide to respond to widespread concerns over the new world of 5G. [Will WHO Kick Its ICNIRP Habit? — Non-Thermal Effects Hang in the Balance

Cigarettes cause about 1.5 million deaths from lung cancer per year, a number that will rise to more than 2 million per year by the 2030s, even if consumption rates decline in the interim. How did we get in this mess?

From Ignorance to Evidence

By the 1920s, surgeons were encountering lung tumours with increasing frequency, and started puzzling over what might be responsible.

The rise of this malady was commonly blamed on asphalt dust from newly tarred roads, industrial air pollution, latent effects from exposure to poison gas in the First World War and even the global influenza pandemic of 1918–1919.

In 1939, Franz Hermann Müller — a physician working at the Cologne Hospital — published the first epidemiology study, comparing 86 lung cancer ‘cases’ and a similar number of cancer-free controls.

Müller was able to show that people with lung cancer were far more likely than non-cancer controls to have smoked, a fact confirmed by Eberhard Schairer and Eric Schöniger at the University of Jena in an even more ambitious study from 1943.

These German results were subsequently verified and amplified by UK and American scholars.

Please, watch carefully the following documentary — The Tobacco Conspiracy–  and see for yourself how the tobacco industry recruited corrupted scientists and members of the Mafia to discredit the evidence linking smoking to lung cancer.

And then, ask yourself a simple question. Is the Telecom industry playing the same game today? And why are governments — all over the world — helping them?

The Tobacco Conspiracy

A history of the tobacco industry’s lies and scams. From the US in 1953 to Africa today, the controversy between individual responsibility and corporate greed is portrayed in a lucid, undaunted manner.

From scientific frauds to working with organized crime, tobacco companies show their hidden agenda more clearly than ever in this theatrically released documentary.

More than three years of investigating all over the world has allowed Nadia Collot to decipher the attitudes of an industry that, in spite of many prevention campaigns still expands its power at the cost of public health.

Three aspects of industry behavior are studied:

1. Scientific subversion: proof of the manipulation of scientific evidence and buying out of scientists to maintain controversy over the health issues related to smoking, but even more so today, related to environmental tobacco smoke.

2. Ideological subversion: whether it be through clever and disguised product placements on screen or TV, creating its own biased health messages, implementing subtle and ingenious marketing tactics or using political lobbying manoeuvres, the tobacco industry has gone to unbelievable extents to do what it says it never will.

3. Economic strategies: to develop as fast as possible, to infiltrate closed-market countries, to better reach the young and the poor, smuggling is one of the ways the industry has chosen to organize its international growth.

  1. CIA is not trying to solve the Havana Syndrome. NSA/GCHQ produce the microchips ( nanoradio ). CIA also uses it. It was good to gather intel, until too much people started bad-using it.
About the drugs, not worth mention it, right?
