Remembering the Mysterious Death of General Abdul Fatah Younis Al-Obeidi (1944 – July 28 2011)

“Zidan’s efforts are complicated by the ongoing legal problems of former National Transitional Council (NTC) leader Mustafa Abdul-Jalil, who will be questioned by both military and civilian prosecutors regarding his role in the July 2011 assassination of General Abdel-Fattah Younis, Gadhafi’s former interior minister and one of the first major defectors from the old regime. Jalil and 10 other NTC officials have been charged with Younis’ death, though none have been arrested.”

Sidney Blumenthal — Email to Hillary Clinton

General Abdul Fatah Younis held the rank of Major General and the post of minister of interior. On 22 February 2011, he resigned and defected to the rebel side in what was to become the Libyan Civil War. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

Former CIA Director Calls For A Coup If Trump Fires Mueller

“I think it’s the obligation of some executive branch officials to refuse to carry that out. I would just hope that this is not going to be a partisan issue. That Republicans, Democrats are going to see that the future of this government is at stake and something needs to be done for the good of the future.”

John Brennan — 2017 Aspen Security Forum

John Brennan (Former Director, Central Intelligence Agency), James Clapper (Former Director of National Intelligence) and moderator Wolf Blitzer (Anchor, The Situation Room, CNN)

In the most vocal opposition to president Donald Trump yet, former CIA Director John Brennan said that if the White House tries to fire special counsel Robert Mueller, government officials should refuse to follow the president orders, as they would be – in his view – “inconsistent” with the duties of the executive branch. One Year Ago — Cosa Nostra & ISIS: Weapons and Illegal Immigrants

“We know Isis has a very commercial eye. They need to raise revenue, so I would certainly say it’s a distinct possibility that Isis may be  involved in sending migrants to southern Europe.”

Former Watergate Prosecutor Blasts Roger Stone

“That never happened, and you’re absolutely wrong — and you’re the man behind this whole business with Trump and with this Guccifer and with the Russians, and you have the nerve to get on television and make these wild accusations, when you were on television before predicting exactly when the WikiLeaks information would come out on Hillary Clinton.”

Former Watergate Prosecutor Nick Ackerman to Roger Stone

Roger Jason Stone Jr. (born August 27, 1952) is an American political consultant, lobbyist, and strategist, noted for his use of opposition research usually for candidates of the Republican Party. Stone has been referred to in media variously as a “political dirty trickster,” a “renowned infighter,” a “seasoned practitioner of hard-edged politics” and a “veteran Republican strategist”. Over the course of his political career, Stone has been widely regarded as promoting a number of falsehoods and conspiracy theories.  Stone is the subject of a Netflix documentary film, titled “Get Me Roger Stone”.

A former Watergate prosecutor smacked down claims made by Roger Stone Jr. — the Republican “dirty trickster” and longtime friend of President Donald Trump — about the burglary that eventually brought down former President Richard Nixon. Stone is under investigation for alleged collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

One Year Ago — Former CIA Director Leon Panetta: “Trump is not qualified to be POTUS”

“You have a presidential candidate who is, in fact, asking the Russians to engage in American politics. I think that’s beyond the pale… He is truly not qualified to be president of the United States.”

TEN YEARS AGO — “What a hornets’ nest I had stirred!” [Wikipedia edited by the CIA]

“This story is demented and broken on so many levels, it is quite difficult to know where to begin, even. Here we have an excellent Wikipedia administrator who has been victimized by lunatic conspiracy theorists, a private person who has absolutely no relation to the wild stories that this article promulgates. Slashdot, you have been trolled.”

Jimmy Wales — Wikipedia co-founder (July 26 2007)

“The strange thing about this story is that this was proven to be true. And there was no denying it. Then later on, a few people started to deny it and claim that it was merely a rumor. Wikipedia has no excuse to hide this.”

Anonymous [Wikipedia user Blissyu2]

“I cannot confirm that the traffic you cite came from agency computers.”

CIA Spokesperson (15/08/2007)

Professor Black just reminded me that … On this day (July 26 2007) ten years ago, OMNI (OhmyNewsInternational) published a piece regarding suspicious edits made to certain articles on Wikipedia. As I was researching a piece on the Lockerbie tragedy, I noticed that some information regarding a Palestinian terrorist group had been erased. Upon closer inspection, I came to the conclusion that Intelligence Agencies were editing sensitive information on Wikipedia. I was not wrong. Remembering Lockerbie — Pan Am 103 Quotes

“I regard the Lockerbie verdict against Megrahi as a ‘Grand Monument to Human Stupidity’.  Indeed, the written opinion of the Lockerbie judges is a remarkable document that claims an ‘honoured place in the history of British miscarriages of justice.’ If the [SCCRC] Commission accepts the application for a full review, the infamous Zeist verdict doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of surviving.”

INTEL TODAY — July 5 2017

Mandela visiting Megrahi — aka the ‘Lockerbie bomber’ — in prison. Many thanks to my friend John Ashston who took the picture.

On Tuesday July 4 2017, the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission [SCCRC] confirmed that it has received a new application to review the conviction in the case of Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al-Megrahi.

Here are some of the quotes I have collected over the years. Together they tell an extraordinary story and they should convince the readers that there are indeed “many dark and sinister corners to this atrocity”.

In 2007, the SCCRC announced that there were six grounds upon which it had concluded that a miscarriage of justice might have occurred. Let us now hope that the SCCRC will accept the application for a full review of Megrahi’s conviction, often described as “a blot on Scotland’s reputation for fair trials”. Let us hope that the SCCRC will give TRUTH a chance! Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

One Year Ago — Clinton’s Emails: Moussa Koussa and The “Lockerbie Bomber”

“The leaders of the Magariha were angered when Qaddafi allowed tribal member Abdelbaset Ali al- Megrahi to take the blame for the Lockerbie bombing in an international tribunal in 2001. The Libyan leader believed that he had resolved this situation when al-Megrahi was released from prison in Scotland and returned to a hero’s welcome in Libya in 2009.”

New York Times vs. CIA: “An Old Debate Wrapped in New Clothes”

“Because it’s a military operation, I don’t think we can completely treat the people who run it purely as intelligence operatives. It moves into a different realm in the discussion as far as I’m concerned. It’s not like you’re exposing a wide undercover operation in Afghanistan. You’re writing about something that is generally done by the military, which I think means that the cloak of secrecy that usually we all allow for the CIA is a little more complicated.”

Dean Baquet — Executive Editor of the New York Times

“As the nation’s dominant news organization, The Times deserves, and gets, intensive scrutiny for how it has handled that story. The grades, clearly, are mixed. Its role in the run-up to the Iraq War has been rightly and harshly criticized. (…) But it’s certainly a healthy sign that The Times’s top editor and some of its key reporters are not only grappling with these issues, but are willing to do so publicly. In an era in which “trust us” — on the part of both the government and the media — hasn’t worked out too well, this discussion couldn’t be more important for American democracy and for We the People.”

Margaret Sullivan — Former Public Editor of The New York Times

Amy Fiscus — the NYT national security editor —  has just explained why The Times published the name of a C.I.A. official last month. The story is obviously reigniting an old debate. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading
