April 11 2017 — In a piece published by the Washington Post on April 7 2017, Amber Phillips writes that President Ronald Reagan’s 1986 bombing raid on Tripoli and Benghazi was retaliation for the 1988 attack on Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie. This is — of course — NONSENSE. Welcome to the post-truth world!

Eventually, the NYT wrote some kind of an erratum: “This report originally incorrectly stated which international bombing President Reagan’s 1986 bombing of Libya was in retaliation for.” Thank you. One should always be grateful for the little things.

But this ‘Freudian slip’ is nevertheless interesting. Let us take a quick look back at the official US disinformation program against Libya in 1986. There is no doubt that this affair should have been a major scandal if it had not been eclipsed by a bigger one a few days later: the Iran-Contra conspiracy. On This Day — Target Zhou Enlai : The Bombing of the Kashmir Princess (April 11 1955)

On April 11 1955, the Kashmir Princess — a chartered Lockheed L-749A Constellation aircraft owned by Air India — was damaged in mid-air by a bomb explosion. The plane crashed into the South China Sea while en route from Hong Kong to Jakarta, Indonesia. Sixteen of those on board were killed, while three survived. Frode Berg, a 62 retired border inspector, was arrested by Russian security service agents in downtown Moscow on December 5th 2017. He is jailed  in isolation at the high-security Lefortovo prison.

Berg was allegedly caught receiving classified material about the Russian Navy that he is accused of planning to hand over to Norwegian and U.S. intelligence agencies. Berg claims that he was duped into working for Norway’s national intelligence agency.

On October 30 2018, the Moscow City Court has upheld the expanded arrest until December 5 2018. On Friday (November 30 2018), the court decided to prolong his arrest for another two months.
