On This Day — The Paris Attacks (November 13 2015) [2019]

“The Paris attacks prompted intense scrutiny of ineffective and convoluted governance in Belgium, where a vast majority of the attackers had ties.”

New York Times (December 24 2016)

“We must accept to live with the idea that other attacks are likely, that other attacks will happen. The potential actors are already here.”

Alain Winants — Former Head of the Belgian State Security Service

Propaganda and Post-Truth

“The antidote to post-truth is not the verification of facts, this has always been the basis of the work of journalists and historians, it is the restoration of logic. This is why a new form of censorship is needed today. Most Facebook users have been logged out at one time or another. In countless cases, users are unable to understand why they have been censored. They search in vain for which prohibited word would have been detected by a computer, or which uncivil position would have been prohibited by a supervisor. In reality, what they are often accused of and arbitrarily sanctioned for is restoring logic to their reasoning.”

Thierry Meyssan

November 12 2019 — Since Friday, Facebook is removing/banning all posts — including Intel Today poll — that identified by name the CIA so-called whistleblower behind the Congressional impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump. It is becoming abundantly clear that Main Stream Media and social media platforms are eager to suppress rational debates and impose official narratives.  Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

Robert A. Levinson — FBI Statement on Anniversary of His Disappearance [UPDATE : Quick note on Levinson’s Court case]

“We share our deepest sympathy with his family which has suffered from his absence for over a decade. We will not rest until the Levinson family is whole again. Iran committed to cooperating with the United States to assist us in bringing Robert Levinson home and we call on Iran to fulfill this commitment.”

Heather Nauert  — State Department Press Secretary (March 9 2018)

“The Iranians responded with a startling offer. In return for Tehran’s assistance in recovering Levinson, they wanted Washington to reveal the location of Ali Reza Asgari, an Iranian general who vanished in Turkey in 2007, just one month before Levinson’s disappearance.”

YEGANEH TORBATI and JOEL SCHECTMAN — America’s unending hostage crisis with Iran — Reuters (August 1 2018)

“My husband served this country tirelessly for decades. He deserves better from all of us and from our government. He deserves our endless pursuit to bring him home, to fight day and night and leave no stone unturned.”

Christine Levinson

On This Day — Able Archer 1983 : The Brink of Apocalypse (November 7-11, 1983) [2019]

“Information about the peculiar and remarkably skewed frame of mind of the Soviet leaders during those times that has emerged since the collapse of the Soviet Union makes me think there is a good chance—with all of the other events in 1983—that they really felt a NATO attack was at least possible and that they took a number of measures to enhance their military readiness short of mobilization. After going through the experience at the time, then through the post-mortems, and now through the documents, I don’t think the Soviets were crying wolf. They may not have believed a NATO attack was imminent in November 1983, but they did seem to believe that the situation was very dangerous. And US intelligence [SNIE 11–9-84 and SNIE 11–10–84] had failed to grasp the true extent of their anxiety.”

Robert Gates — CIA Deputy Director for Intelligence during Able Archer 83

Able Archer 83 is the codename for a command post exercise carried out in November 1983 by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Coordinated from the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Casteau, Belgium, it involved NATO forces throughout Western Europe. This exercise began on November 7, 1983 and ended on November 11, 1983. Today, many historians believe that the world almost came to a nuclear war on that week. KRYPTOS Week 2019 — New Clues from the CIA Website?

“I hope I have inspired some people to study the Kryptos puzzle and to give it a try. Even the parts of the code that already have been decrypted still have to be interpreted for their deeper meaning. There are many pieces to be put together and many layers to be peeled away.”

David Stein — CIA analyst (Directorate of Intelligence)

Kryptos at CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia

Kryptos is a sculpture by the American artist Jim Sanborn located on the grounds of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Langley, Virginia. Of the four parts of the message, the first three have been solved. The last part of the message remains as one of the most famous unsolved code in the world. The CIA has recently provided new clues that have been unnoticed. It would appear that the CIA would like the Kryptos code to be solved before the 30 years anniversary (November 3 2020).  Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

On This Day — Western Union Cable Announces Armistice to North Americans (November 10 1918)

“There had never been a known leak from the Western Union telegraph office on Court Street before that day, but this news was simply too good to keep quiet. As you might guess, they were overjoyed, so that word very quickly leaked into the community and the party was on.”

Richard Rose — Chair of the November 10 commemoration committee with the North Sydney Historical Society

The North Sydney Historical Museum houses the telegraph machine that received the oversea message announcing an armistice would be signed on November 11, 1918.

On November 10 1918, Western Union Cable Office in North Sydney, Nova Scotia received a Morse coded message from Europe stating that all fighting — on land, sea and in the air — would cease the next day. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

KRYPTOS Week 2019 — SECTION IV : A Few Clues From Edward Scheidt

“They will be able to read what I wrote, but what I wrote is a mystery itself.”

James Sanborn

“Maintaining secrecy about the sculpture became a challenging part of creating Kryptos. Both Jim and I were under scrutiny by the media who wanted badly to know the answer. To be honest, I don’t know the answer. After Jim finished the sculpture, I never went back to check the code.”

Edward Scheidt  — Former CIA Head of Cryptography

Kryptos at CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia

KRYPTOS is a sculpture by the American artist Jim Sanborn located on the grounds of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Langley, Virginia. Since its dedication on November 3, 1990, there has been much speculation about the meaning of the four encrypted messages it bears. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

Two Years Ago — Who Killed Argentina Prosecutor Alberto Nisman? And Why?

“I am not going to speculate because I do not know who killed him but, yes, there are possibly ‘dark forces’ at work in this country.”

Horacio Verbitzky — Argentina’s most prominent journalist and human rights campaigner

Alberto-Nisman

A political scandal has erupted in Argentina over the mysterious death of special prosecutor Albert Nisman. The 52-year-old was found dead in his apartment on January 18 2015. On the next day, Nisman was scheduled to testify before Congress that Argentina’s President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner (along with members of her government) had attempted to cover-up a deal that protected the perpetrators of the 1994 bombing of a Buenos Aires Jewish cultural center.  Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY

Remembering Actress and Inventor Hedy Lamarr (November 9, 1914 – January 19, 2000) [2019]

“Any girl can be glamorous. All you have to do is stand still and look stupid.”

“American men, as a group, seem to be interested in only two things, money and breasts. It seems a very narrow outlook.”

“If you use your imagination, you can look at any actress and see her nude… I hope to make you use your imagination.”

Hedy Lamarr

“We began talking about the war, which, in the late summer of 1940, was looking most extremely black. Hedy said that she did not feel very comfortable, sitting there in Hollywood and making lots of money when things were in such a state. She said that she knew a good deal about munitions and various secret weapons … and that she was thinking seriously of quitting MGM and going to Washington, DC, to offer her services to the newly established Inventors’ Council.”

George Antheil — Composer, pianist and inventor

A 1940s shot of Lamarr, ‘the most beautiful woman in the world’

Often called “The Most Beautiful Woman in Films,” Hedy Lamarr’s beauty and screen presence made her one of the most popular actresses of her day. It is however much less known that Lamarr was also an inventor who, along with composer George Antheil, patented a frequency-hopping system during World War II that presaged Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technology. KRYPTOS Week 2019 — SECTION III : A Transposition Cipher

With trembling hands, I made a tiny breach in the upper left hand corner… widening the hole a little, I inserted the candle and peered in… at first I could see nothing, the hot air escaping from the chamber causing the candle to flicker. Presently, details of the room emerged slowly from the mist, strange animals, statues and gold – everywhere the glint of gold. For the moment – an eternity it must have seemed to the others standing by – I was struck dumb with amazement, and when Lord Carnarvon, unable to stand in suspense any longer, inquired anxiously “Can you see anything?”, it was all I could do to get out the words “Yes, wonderful things”.

Howard Carter — The Tomb of Tutankhamen (Diary — November 26 1922)

In a previous post, we looked at the inside story of the NSA people who took the challenge to decrypt — part of — the KRYPTOS code. I will tell you later how the NSA people broke Section III but today I will present a novel and rather unusual solution.

Why? Because I have great doubts that Sanborn — an artist — has used complex mathematical transformation to code Section III. Who cares? Does it matter anyway? One would think that as long as the solution is correct, the method used to get it is irrelevant. One could be wrong. The devil IS in the details. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading
