Remembering Olof Palme (January 30 1927 – February 28 1986) [UPDATE : Swedish prosecutors close Olof Palme murder inquiry]

“This is an open wound in Swedish society. It is extremely important that this is solved.”

Sweden Prime Minister Stefan Lofven (May 2018)

“The Anti Apartheid Conference in Stockholm, it is suggested by our Swedish Sources in Uppsala, would present the ideal opportunity to take the necessary action against Mr. Palme and it would be possible to ensure that the action be attributed to other groups.”

South Africa Military Intelligence Report (October 15 1985)

“Reading and thinking about Palme makes you wonder who you are. And who you might have been, but weren’t. And where your moral courage went when it was needed. You ask yourself what power drove him – golden boy, aristocratic family, brilliant scion of the best schools and the best cavalry regiment – to embrace from the outset of his career the cause of the exploited, the deprived, the undervalued and the unheard?”

David Cornwell (John le Carré ) — Olof Palme Award acceptance speech (January 30 2020)

February 28 2019 — The murder of Prime Minister Olof Palme on February 28 1986 shocked Sweden and had a great impact across Scandinavia. If we can solve today the mystery of the 1961 murder of UN Secretary Dag Hammarskjold, then surely we must be able to identify the killer(s) of Prime Minister Olof Palme. One Year Ago — NYT Apologizes For Misreporting On Skripal Incident

“I made a significant error in my April 16 profile of Gina Haspel. It took a while to figure out where I went wrong. Here is the correction: […] The intelligence about the ducks and children were based on an early intelligence report, according to people familiar with the matter. The intelligence was presented to the US in an effort to share all that was known, not to deceive the Trump administration. This correction was delayed because conducting the research to figure out what I got wrong, how I got it wrong and what was the correct information took time. I regret the error and offer my apology. I strive to get information right the first time. That is what subscribers pay for. But when I get something wrong, I fix it. ”

Julian E. Barnes (June 5 2019)

“In March 2018, Gina Haspel lied to President Trump about the Skripal Affair in order to persuade him to escalate measures against Moscow. On April 16 of this year, The New York Times reported it without correcting Haspel’s falsehood. Please, note that the story told by the Times is not only false, it also contradicts the official narrative.”

Intel Today (June 5 2019)

“Spygate is the first American scandal in which the government wants the facts published transparently but the media want to cover them up.”

British journalist John O’Sullivan — Tweet (May 24 2019)

“Which [story] is worse? (…) The answer is they’re both as bad. In both scenarios, an utterly false picture of what happened in Salisbury was given to the sceptical President to twist his arm into taking action he didn’t want to take. As they say, when in a hole, better stop digging.”

Rob Slane — The Blogmire

June 9 2019 — First, the New York Times told us that CIA Director Gina Haspel had showed President Trump some (fake) pictures of dead ducks and sick children to persuade him to retaliate against Russia for the Skripals’ poisoning. Two months later, the New York Times journalist claims that he made a mistake. Such pictures do not — of course — exist. And now, the readers are asked to believe that Haspel showed some pictures of actual nerve agent victims who were never anywhere near Salisbury to persuade Trump to take the strongest action. Remembering the U.S.S. Liberty — June 8 1967 [2020]

There has been a lot of media coverage mostly written by Israelis or American Jews regarding Israel’s ‘victory’ fifty years ago during the so-called Six Days War directed against its Arab neighbors but I have yet to see an account that mentions the fate of the U.S.S. Liberty. Nevertheless, the Liberty is not forgotten.”

Former CIA Analyst Philip Giraldi (June 2017)

“I will never quit. My nation expects me to be physically harder and mentally stronger than my enemies. If knocked down I will get back up, every time. I will draw on every remaining ounce of strength to protect my shipmates and to accomplish our mission. I am never out of the fight.”

USS Liberty Survivors’ Creed

June 8 2017 — The attack on the U.S.S. Liberty by Israeli warplanes and torpedo boats on June 8 1967, has almost faded from memory, with a younger generation completely unaware that a United States naval vessel was once deliberately targeted and nearly sunk by America’s “greatest friend and ally” Israel.   I take this opportunity to remind you that a USS Liberty survivor is asking for your help in locating a document. Lockerbie — Three Decades of Lies: J’Accuse…! [Chapter IV : The ‘Wait & See’ Strategy]

“Even before the final settlement, it is possible to argue that the US and Iran reached a tentative agreement about Pan Am 103. (…) using the back channels already established through ‘Irangate’, and relying on the policy of searching for moderates with whom to do business, it is possible that the US sought the isolation of Mohtashemi in exchange for a policy of non-retaliation.”

Davina Miller — Who Knows About This? Western Policy Towards Iran: The Lockerbie Case (December 2011)

“To Mr. Montazeri.

Since it has become clear that after me you are going to hand over this country, our dear Islamic revolution, and the Muslim people of Iran to the liberals, and through that channel to the hypocrites [Mojahedin-e Khalq], you are no longer eligible to succeed me as the legitimate leader of the state.

I give you the following words of advice, and it will be up to you whether you take note of them or not:

One: Try to change the members of your cabinet so as to avoid feeding the hypocrites, Mahdi Hashemi’s clique, and the liberals from the sacred charity funds donated to the Imam.

Two: Since you are a gullible person and are provoked easily, do not interfere in political matters, and maybe then God will forgive you for your sins.

Three: Do not write to me ever again, and do not allow the hypocrites to pass state secrets to foreign radio stations.

Wishing you peace”

Ruhollah al-Musavi al-Khomeini (March 26 1989)

“President Bush and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher secretly agreed last spring to play down the truth about Pan Am flight 103. When the intelligence reports began to leak last March [1989], Thatcher called Bush to discuss their problem. Bush didn’t argue when Thatcher suggested that they low-key the findings. At any rate, the Anderson article provided some explanation for the curious official silence of both heads of state after March 1989.”

Paul Foot

June 8 2020 — On March 16 1989, Paul Channon, the then British Secretary of State for Transport, lunched five journalists at the Garrick Club. Channon told them — off-the-record — that the Lockerbie killers had been identified and would soon be arrested. The Lockerbie investigation seemed to be over. But then, a political earthquake rattled the capital of Iran. And by the time the tremors were felt in Washington and London, George Bush and Lady Thatcher understood that the ‘Lockerbie Solution’ had to be put on hold until the smoke cleared. Remembering Alan Turing (23 June 1912 – 7 June 1954) [2020]

“I believe that at the end of the century the use of words and general educated opinion will have altered so much that one will be able to speak of machines thinking without expecting to be contradicted.”

Alan Turing

“I would not like the journey [to the United States], and I detest America.”

Alan Turing (1953) — Response to a conference invitation

“A new inquiry is long overdue, even if only to dispel any doubts about the true cause of his death—including speculation that he was murdered by the security services (or others). I think murder by state agents is unlikely. There is no known evidence pointing to any such act. However, it is a major failing that this possibility has never been considered or investigated.”

Peter Tatchell — Human Rights advocate

June 7 2019 — Alan Turing was a mathematician, cryptographer and pioneer of computer science who possessed one of the greatest brains of the 20th century. His life was one of secret triumphs shadowed by public tragedy. It has been estimated that his work shortened the war in Europe by more than two years and saved over fourteen million lives. Three Years Ago — How Europe Left Itself Open to Terrorism [UPDATE — And it is only getting worse!]

“The flaws in the European system are multiple. The Paris and Brussels attacks should never have happened. I don’t know what we are waiting for. Do we have to wait for hundreds of deaths?”

Jean-Louis Bruguiere — Former French investigating magistrate in charge of counter-terrorism affairs

Malbeek Station — Brussels March 22 2016

June 6 2017 — Since January 2015, an unprecedented wave of terror attacks has overwhelmed Europe’s defenses.  That month, attacks against Charlie Hebdo magazine and a Jewish supermarket in Paris left 17 people dead.  On November 13th in Paris, ISIS attacked multiple targets, killing 130 people.  Four months later, suicide bombings killed 32 in Brussels. Two Years Ago — CIA Recruiting ‘AN US Russian Speaking  Citizen’ [UPDATE : On the art of avoiding assholes]

“Are you an US citizen with a college degree?
Seriously CIA?”

Sujai Shukla @sujaishukla

“Seriously?? I think your first order of business should be to hire a proofreader. You made yourselves look like fools. Are you still concerned with the Russians? You have bigger problems than Russians. I find you so amusing, I have for over 25 years.”

FUKTWYTTER @Yousucktwytter

“Can I work part-time ? I’m working for [Russia] FSB currently but have some free time for CIA too.”

Aлкаш Татарстана  @tat_alkash

“Not giving a shit takes the wind out of an asshole’s sails.”

Sean Illing — Vox (February 2020)

June 4 2018 — The CIA — also known as the CYA (Cover your Ass) — is recruiting AN US CITIZEN. Think twice before you take this job! Then again, it may be a Freudian slip? That kind of thing happens when the new boss has spent too much time force-feeding prisoners through the wrong end of their pipe.

On the other hand, if the Agency is really looking to hire a new bunch of ‘ASSHOLES’, feel free to send them — — your own recommendations. Follow us on twitter: @Intel_Today Continue reading

Bloggers Under Siege — Craig Murray Charged with Contempt of Court [UPDATE : Please Sign the Open Letter]

“I know who leaked them [Hillary Clinton’s email]. I’ve met the person who leaked them, and they are certainly not Russian and it’s an insider. It’s a leak, not a hack; the two are different things.”

“I can affirm that the FCO and MI6 knew that al-Megrahi was not the Lockerbie bomber.”

“Philip Cross has edited every single day from 29 August 2013 to 14 May 2018. Including five Christmas Days. That’s 1,721 consecutive days of editing. 133,612 edits to Wikipedia.”

Former UK Ambassador Craig Murray

“I should be grateful if you would join Noam Chomsky, Yanis Varoufakis, David Hare, Roger Waters, Robert Black, Kristinn Hrnafsson, Christine Assange and many others in signing the open letter against the politically motivated legal harassment of people including Mark Hirst and myself.

I am not asking you to endorse our political views; I am asking you to support free speech and oppose this rather startling authoritarianism and highly selective prosecution.”

Craig Murray (June 1 2020)

Craig Murray was British Ambassador to Uzbekistan from 2002 to 2004.

April 27 2020 — Former UK Ambassador Craig Murray  — a well known and very popular blogger — has been charged with contempt of court and the hearing is set on July 7 2020 at the High Court in Edinburgh. COVID-19 — Why has Belgium the highest death rate in the world?

“It is rare for Donald Trump to credit other countries with world records, but at a press briefing last month the US president unveiled a list that put Belgium at the top. Unfortunately for Belgium, it was a ranking of deaths from the coronavirus. According to numbers collated by the Johns Hopkins University, Belgium leads the world in deaths per head of population. (…) So why is Belgium’s relative death toll so high?”

The Independent (May 1st 2020)

June 2 2020 — Based on a comparison of corona-virus deaths in 178 countries relative to their population, Belgium had the most losses to COVID-19 up until May 29, 2020. These statistics are horrifying. And yet, the truth is even worse. In the Region of Brussels-Capital, the relative death rate is actually twice higher than the average for Belgium. What can possibly explain such an incredibly high death rate? Short answer: incompetence and corruption.  Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading
