UPDATE (April 15 2026) — PT/35(b) is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. PT/35(b) is a small fragment of a timer circuit that, according to the Lockerbie verdict, triggered an IED onboard Pan Am 103.
After many years of study and research, I have come to the conclusion that PT/35(b) is a forgery that was planted among the debris to implicate Libya in the bombing of Pan Am 103.
As Reverend John Mosey correctly pointed out many years ago:
“PT/35(b) was extremely, extremely dodgy. It was very, very suspicious. The way it suddenly appeared, embedded in a shirt collar, with the information on the page overwritten and changed, all police procedures were thrown out of the window.”
In his Memoirs, FBI Agent Richard Marquise writes:
“Cretton [Real name : Swiss Inspector Hans Knaus] expressed his concerns (…) The first was that the CIA had planted the chip [PT/35(b)] in the wreckage found at Lockerbie. [Detective Superintendant (SIO) Stuart] Henderson and I told him this thought had also crossed our minds. Neither of us believed the CIA or any government official would do such a thing, but we had discussed the possibility.”
Defence counsel Richard Keen QC concluded the trial with these words:
“Dr. Hayes seemed to have no real recollection independently of his notes of having found PT/35(b). The sequence of the PT numbering and the absence from the notes of a drawing of the circuit board are unusual features. The pagination of the notes was described by Hayes as ‘an unfathomable mystery’, for which he did propose an explanation, but unfortunately one that does not work. The memorandum of the 15th of September 1989 is difficult to understand if the fragment was indeed found on the 12th of May 1989. PT/35(b) is an important piece of evidence on which the Crown rely and in respect of which it is for the Crown to satisfy the court as to its provenance. I submit that the irregularities and peculiarities which attend this item are some which the court ought to have some hesitation in being satisfied as to the item’s provenance.”
In an Email to Intel Today (September 6 2008), FBI Richard Marquise asked me:
“Please tell me what you do not believe about PT/35(b)… I would be willing to rethink my ideas.”
It is abundantly clear that the fragment PT/35(b) did not come from a Thuring circuit board supplied to MEBO to fabricate the MST-13 timers delivered to Libya.
Had the SIB logo been read correctly, instead of the ridiculous “21B”, the case would have collapsed on the spot.

QUESTION: Hi, Mr. Secretary. My name is Ben Allen, and I’m a civil engineering student. My question for you is: How do you balance condemnations with concessions in diplomacy with a controversial government such as Saudi Arabia? Thank you.
SECRETARY POMPEO: So I always begin with a deep understanding that no secretary of state gets through their first day without recognizing it’s a tough world out there.
We don’t appreciate how glorious it is to be here in the United States of America on a consistent enough basis and with enough fervour.
Maybe you do here at Texas A&M, but I think too many Americans don’t understand how blessed we are. These are – are many, many tough places out there.
Having said that, not all tough places are the same. They each present a different set of challenges.
I – it reminds me, you would know this as – it’s a bit of an aside. But in terms of how you think about problem sets, I – when I was a cadet, what’s the first – what’s the cadet motto at West Point? You will not lie, cheat, or steal, or tolerate those who do.
I was the CIA director. We lied, we cheated, we stole. (Laughter.)
