The Real CIA NARCOS Story Netflix Ignored [2019]

“The old conventional wisdom of this being a conspiracy theory survived even if the evidence is now incontrovertible. So even NARCOS wants to avoid the issue and pretends it did not happen.”

Journalist Robert Parry (June 24, 1949 – January 27, 2018)

NARCOS tells a story of Pablo Escobar and the Medellin Cartel in a cops and robbers drama, but the true CIA connection to the cocaine industry that reached to the White House runs much deeper than the TV show. Follow us on Twitter: @Intel_Today

In a recent post, we discussed a new book written by Juan Pablo Escobar in which he claims that his father worked for the CIA.

A reader posted the following comment: “If only the producers of NARCOS knew about this…”

Truth being told, the producers of NARCOS are most likely fully aware of this deeper and darker sub-story. But they also know what happened to Gary Webb.

The far-right “Cocaine Coup” in South America, Nicaragua’s revolution, and Oliver North and the CIA’s special relationships with Manuel Noriega were exposed by journalist Robert Parry in 1985. Gary Webb renewed the allegations a decade later.

American journalist Robert Parry certainly thought that this crucial part of the whole affair has intentionally — and understandably — been ignored by the producers of the popular series.

Historical Background

Juan Pablo Escobar, aka Juan Sebastián Marroquín Santos, the son of Pablo Escobar, wrote in his latest book that his father worked with the CIA.

This video also contains clips of former agents, officers, politicians discussing the operations.

About Robert Parry

Robert Parry was an American investigative journalist who wrote extensively about the Iran-Contra scandal. During the 1980s, he worked for Associated Press and Newsweek, and broke a number of Iran-Contra stories.

Along with his AP partner Brian Barger, he was the first to report on Oliver North’s activities in the White House basement.

Parry was also the first journalist to describe the Nicaraguan Contras’ involvement with cocaine traffickers.

Robert Parry has written several books, including Lost History: Contras, Cocaine, the Press & “Project Truth” (1999).

He was awarded the George Polk Award for National Reporting in 1984 and the I.F. Stone Medal for Journalistic Independence by Harvard’s Nieman Foundation in 2015.

Robert Parry was the editor of Consortiumnews from 1995 until his death in 2018. [Wikipedia]
