Sergei & Yulia Skripal — Boris Johnson Lied About The Nerve Agent Origin

“I will say it again: Anybody who tells you this nerve agent must have come from Russia is a liar–a complete and utter liar. They are simple compounds.”

Dave Collum — Professor of organic Chemistry at Cornell

“He claimed categorically – and I think he used the words 101 per cent – that it had come from Russia (… ) Boris Johnson seems to have completely exceeded the information that he had been given and told the world in categorical terms what he believed had happened. And it’s not backed up by the evidence he claimed to have got from Porton Down in the first place. Boris Johnson needs to answer some questions.”

Jeremy Corbyn

“If lying to the country about something so serious doesn’t return Johnson to the back benches, what will it take?”

Ellie Mae O’Hagan — Freelance journalist and commentator

“The key point is that the FCO knew it was lying. This was published six days after I was told by an FCO source, and published, that Porton Down scientists were refusing to say the substance came from Russia. The FCO knew this.”

Craig Murray — Former UK Ambassador

On March 22, the UK Foreign Secretary told the broadcaster ‘Deutsche Welle’ that the ‘novichok’ nerve agent used in the Salisbury attack had been made in Russia. We now know that Boris Johnson lied. The question is why a senior UK minister would lie to the international community about such a grave crime. I posted the interviews of Boris Johnson and Porton Down Lab Chief scientist so that you can judge for yourself. Finally, I remind you that former UK ambassador Craig Murray had warned us two weeks ago that the UK scientists had not been able to pinpoint the origin of the nerve agent used in the Salisbury attack. During the interview, Boris Johnson said officials at the Porton Down defence research laboratory were ‘absolutely categorical’ that the nerve agent was Russian-made

Two weeks ago, Boris Johnson was asked by an interviewer on Deutsche Walle — Germany’s public international broadcaster — how the UK had been able to find out so quickly that the novichok nerve agent originated from Russia. Johnson replied:

“When I look at the evidence, the people from Porton Down, the laboratory, they were absolutely categorical.

I asked the guy myself, I said: ‘Are you sure?’

And he said: ‘There’s no doubt.’

So we have very little alternative but to take the action that we have taken.”

So, without a doubt, Boris Johnson lied. No question about that. Full Stop.

But Boris Johnson managed to make things worse! The Foreign Office has now deleted a tweet — dated March 22 2018 — blaming Moscow for the attack. The deleted tweet read:

“Analysis by world-leading experts at the Defence Science and Technology laboratory at Porton Down made clear that this was a military grade nerve agent produced in Russia.”

A UK foreign office spokesman is now suggesting that the tweet did not accurately reflect the words of their ambassador in Moscow. This statement is also false.

According to an official transcript of the speech, British ambassador Laurie Bristow’s original words were:

“The analysts at Porton Down, the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory in the UK, established and made clear that this was a military-grade chemical weapon. One of the Novichok series; a nerve agent as I said produced in Russia.”

Have We Learned Nothing From the Iraqi WMDs Fiasco?

So, why did Boris Johnson lie and why is he getting away with it? Former UK Ambassador Craig Murray suggests an explanation:

“If we accept that we live in a society where the public bodies that are supposed to serve us, can lie to us and to the world in order specifically to heat up a cold war, then the future is bleak.

This is a direct consequence of the lack of suitable punishment for those involved in the crime of creating lies to wage aggressive war on Iraq, particularly Tony Blair, Richard Dearlove and John Scarlett.

As they are not in jail, Boris is confident he will not be either. We have learned nothing from the Iraq War experience, and what is most disheartening is that officials within the FCO and security services still do not see it as their job to prevent lies rather than to propagate them when asked by a Minister.”

Briefing on the UK government’s response to the Salisbury attack

March 22 2018 — British Ambassador to Russia Dr Laurie Bristow has briefed the international diplomatic community in Moscow on the UK Government response to the Salisbury attack.

“I have long held the opinion that Bristow is a deeply repulsive individual with no morals or scruples. When I was sacked as British Ambassador to Tashkent for criticising Uzbekistan’s human rights record and objecting to MI6 use of intelligence from the Uzbek torture chambers, Bristow went to Tashkent after my removal to assure the Uzbeks that the UK had no interest in human rights and wished to continue ‘intelligence cooperation’. That somebody like Bristow can become one of Britain’s most senior Ambassadors says all you need to know about the United Kingdom today.” [Craig Murray]

Craig Murray: “Foreign Office sources told me 2 weeks ago that Porton Down couldn’t say it was Russia”

“Sources in Foreign and Commonwealth Office told me 2 weeks ago that Porton Down were unable to say it was Russia but were under pressure by Conservatives to say it was” says Craig Murray as scientists have been unable to prove Russia made the nerve agent A-234 used to poison the Skripals.
