The Real CIA NARCOS Story Netflix Ignored

“The old conventional wisdom of this being a conspiracy theory survived even if the evidence is now incontrovertible. So even NARCOS wants to avoid the issue and pretends it did not happen.”

American Journalist Robert Parry

NARCOS tells a story of Pablo Escobar and the Medellin Cartel in a cops and robbers drama, but the true CIA connection to the cocaine industry that reached to the White House runs much deeper than the TV show. Follow us on Twitter: @Intel_Today

In a recent post, we discussed a new book written by Juan Pablo Escobar in which he claims that his father worked for the CIA.

A reader posted the following comment: “If only the producers of NARCOS knew about this…”

Truth being told, the producers of NARCOS are most likely fully aware of this deeper and darker sub-story. But they also know what happened to Gary Webb.

The far-right “Cocaine Coup” in South America, Nicaragua’s revolution, and Oliver North and the CIA’s special relationships with Manuel Noriega were exposed by journalist Robert Parry in 1985. Gary Webb renewed the allegations a decade later.

American journalist Robert Parry certainly thinks that this crucial part of the whole affair is intentionally — and understandably — ignored by the producers of the popular series. (See his interview in the video interview below.)

Historical Background

Juan Pablo Escobar, aka Juan Sebastián Marroquín Santos, the son of Pablo Escobar, wrote in his latest book that his father worked with the CIA. This video also contains clips of former agents, officers, politicians discussing the operations.

Robert Parry

Robert Parry is an American investigative journalist who has written extensively about the Iran-Contra scandal. During the 1980s, he worked for Associated Press and Newsweek, and broke a number of Iran-Contra stories.

Along with his AP partner Brian Barger, he was the first to report on Oliver North’s activities in the White House basement, and the first to describe the Nicaraguan Contras’ involvement with cocaine traffickers.

In 1995, he established as an online resource dedicated to investigative journalism.

Robert Parry has written several books, including Lost History: Contras, Cocaine, the Press & “Project Truth.” (1999) and Secrecy & Privilege: Rise of the Bush Dynasty from Watergate to Iraq (2004).
