Posted on August 15, 2021 by L

“When you’re wounded and left on Afghanistan’s plains, and the women come out to cut up what remains, jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains and go to your gawd like a soldier.”

Rudyard Kipling — The Young British Soldier

August 15 2021 — The US embassy in Kabul warned all Americans to get out on the first available flight. The Embassy has instructed its personnel to destroy sensitive materials. “Please also include items with embassy or agency logos, American flags, or items which could be misused in propaganda efforts.” Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY

KRYPTOS — The Mystery of the MORSE Messages

Posted on August 14, 2021 by L

“At the entrance to the New Headquarters building, the sculpture begins with two red granite and copperplate constructions which flank the walkway from the parking deck. These stones appear as pages jutting from the earth with copperplate ‘between the pages’ on which there are International Morse code and ancient ciphers. There is also a lodestone co-located with a navigational compass rose.”

The Story behind “Kryptos” [Virtual Tour of the CIA]

Teaching Covert Action to Law Students - Lawfare

August 14 2021 — In addition to the main part of the sculpture, Jim Sanborn also placed other pieces of art at the CIA grounds, such as several large granite slabs with sandwiched copper sheets outside the entrance to the New Headquarters Building. Several Morse code messages are found on these copper sheets, and one of the stone slabs has an engraving of a compass rose pointing to a lodestone. What is the message? Is it related to the KRYPTOS sculpture? Let us get started! Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY

The August 4 2020 Beirut Explosion — Debunking the FBI Conspiracy Theory [OSINT]

Posted on August 10, 2021 by L

“The amount of ammonium nitrate that blew up at Beirut port last year was one fifth of the shipment unloaded there in 2013, the FBI concluded after the blast, adding to suspicions that much of the cargo had gone missing.”

Reuters (July 30 2021)

August 10 2021 — FBI forensic scientists have estimated that around 552 tonnes of ammonium nitrate exploded on August 4 2020 in the Port of Beirut, much less than the 2,754 tonnes that arrived on a Russian-leased cargo ship in 2013. Reuters, The Guardian, and other MSM are reporting this nonsensical junk-science report without even consulting scientific experts. Let me be very clear. This is total nonsense. Deadly Floods in Belgium & Germany — A Monumental Intelligence Failure? [UPDATE : Deluge of Disinformation from a Sinister Minister]

Posted on August 9, 2021 by L

“The fact that people didn’t evacuate or get the warnings suggests that something is going wrong. If you’ve got some information about what risk you’re at and you can understand it, you can take action to protect yourself. These floods were huge. Probably they were like a fantasy or a kind of science-fiction movie for people.”

Hannah Cloke — Professor of hydrology at Reading University

July 20 2021 — Belgium and Germany knew that huge floods were coming. Yet, the early warnings were not passed to the population. Scientists believe that this ‘monumental failure of the system’ is directly to blame for the death of at least 200 people in Germany and Belgium. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY

Happy International Cat Day (August 8 2021) — Remembering CIA Operation Acoustic Kitty

Posted on August 8, 2021 by L

“They slit the cat open, put batteries in him, wired him up. The tail was used as an antenna. They made a monstrosity. They tested him, and tested him. They found he would walk off the job when he got hungry, so they put another wire in to override that. Finally, they are ready. They took it out to a park bench and said: ‘Listen to those two guys. Don’t listen to anything else – not the birds, no cat or dog – just those two guys!’ (…) They put him out of the van, and a taxi comes and runs him over. There they were, sitting in the van with all those dials, and the cat was dead.”

Victor Marchetti — Special assistant to the Deputy Director of the CIA

August 8 2021 — Next to the wolf, the cat is one of humanity’s oldest pets. On International Cat Day, the world celebrates the most popular pet on the planet. Ernst Stavro Blofeld’s blue-eyed Persian is probably the most famous kitty in spy history. Less known is the true story of the CIA US$ 20 million cyborg acoustic kitty. Remembering CIA Molly C. H. Hardy (Dec. 15 1946 – Aug. 7 1998) [2021]

Posted on August 7, 2021 by L

“For a small cadre of CIA veterans, the death of Osama bin Laden was more than just a national moment of relief and closure. It was also a measure of payback, a settling of a score for a pair of deaths, the details of which have remained a secret for 13 years. Tom Shah and Molly Huckaby Hardy were among the 44 U.S. Embassy employees killed when a truck bomb exploded outside the embassy compound in Kenya in 1998.”
