One Year Ago — BELGIUM — Europe’s Most Wanted

“Mr Atar’s situation is being followed closely. Repeated requests made by Belgium to the Iraqi government to consider an early release for humanitarian reasons have been fruitless so far.”

Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs — October 9, 2010

Oussama Atar, a Belgian of Moroccan descent, is almost certainly the main culprit of the Paris and Brussels attacks. Question: why was he living freely when he should have been kept in a Iraqi jail? Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

The Los Alamos Primer — Section II

“We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad Gita; Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and, to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, ‘Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.’ I suppose we all thought that, one way or another.”

Robert Oppenheimer

“I don’t want to see that son-of-a-bitch in this office ever again.”

US President Truman (About Oppenheimer to Undersecretary of State Dean Acheson)

Julius Robert Oppenheimer (April 22, 1904 – February 18, 1967) was an American theoretical physicist and professor of physics at the University of California, Berkeley. Oppenheimer was the wartime head of the Los Alamos Laboratory and is among those who are credited with being the “father of the atomic bomb” for their role in the Manhattan Project, the World War II undertaking that developed the first nuclear weapons used in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The ‘Los Alamos Primer’ is perhaps the most important single document of the 20th Century. Yet, it is a rather simple document that could have been written by many others “elsewhere”, and possibly several years earlier. Thus, the History of this world could have been drastically different. In this post, I  discus the second  section of the  document. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

CIA Director Pompeo Compares Iran To ISIS

“For unlike ISIS and its mirage of a caliphate, Iran is a powerful nation-state that remains the world’s largest state-sponsor of terrorism. The Islamic Republic is Iran’s version of what the caliphate ought to look like under the control of an Ayatollah and his praetorian guard, the IRGC.”

 CIA Director Michael Pompeo

CIA Director Michael Pompeo delivers the keynote address to the National Security Forum being held in the Robert Strauss Center at the University

On the eve of President Trump’s decision on the certification of the Iran nuclear deal, CIA Director Michael Pompeo lashed out at the Islamic Republic in a speech at the University of Texas, calling it “a thuggish police state,” a “despotic theocracy” and compared its ambitions to those of ISIS. Seymour Hersh: 16th annual Sam Adams Laureate

“Trump issued the order despite having been warned by the U.S. intelligence community that it had found no evidence that the Syrians had used a chemical weapon. The available intelligence made clear that the Syrians had targeted a jihadist meeting site on April 4 using a Russian-supplied guided bomb equipped with conventional explosives. Details of the attack,  including information on its so-called high-value targets, had been provided by the Russians days in advance to American and allied military officials in Doha, whose mission is to coordinate all U.S., allied, Syrian and Russian Air Force operations in the region.”

Seymour Hersh

“A 80-year-old guy that should have retired a decade ago is the ONLY journalist in America with balls enough to speak truth to power and to the general population. He is forced to publish his articles in London and Berlin because “the beacon of liberty” as US likes to call itself, for no apparent reason, practices Pravda style censorship.”

Sputnik: 60 Years Later, the CIA Releases Declassified Documents

“If somebody tells me that he has the rockets to shoot — which we know from other sources, anyway — and tells me what he will shoot, how he will shoot it, and in general says virtually everything except for the precise date — well, what should I feel like if I’m surprised when the man shoots?”

Willy Ley — science writer (1958)

On October 4 1957, the Soviet Union launched SPUTNIK-1 into an elliptical low Earth orbit. It was a 58 cm (23 in) diameter polished metal sphere, with four external radio antennas to broadcast radio pulses. Its radio signal was easily detectable even by amateurs, and the 65° inclination and duration of its orbit made its flight path cover virtually the entire inhabited Earth. This surprise success precipitated the American Sputnik crisis and triggered the Space Race, a part of the Cold War. The launch ushered in new political, military, technological, and scientific developments. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

PT/35(b) — An Overview of the Lockerbie Case

“Without PT/35(b), there would have been no indictment.”

Richard Marquise — FBI Agent who led the US side of the Lockerbie investigation

“I regard the Lockerbie verdict against Megrahi as a ‘Grand Monument to Human Stupidity’.  Indeed, the written opinion of the Lockerbie judges is a remarkable document that claims an ‘honoured place in the history of British miscarriages of justice.’ If the SCCRC Commission accepts the application for a full review, the infamous Zeist verdict doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of surviving.”

INTEL TODAY — July 5 2017

PT/35(b) is a small fragment of a circuit timer that was allegedly found among the debris of Pan Am 103 near the town of Lockerbie.

After many years of studies, I have come to the conclusion that PT/35(b) is a forgery that was planted among the debris to implicate Libya in the bombing of Pan Am 103 and to steer the investigation away from the original suspects.

Perhaps you are not familiar with the Lockerbie case or your memory may be a bit fuzzy about this extraordinary affair that began three decades ago. Therefore, before discussing the properties of PT/35(b) and what it implies for the case, I have written a summary of the Lockerbie investigation and trial which you might find useful.

Pompeo Delivers Opening Keynote at 2017 Conference on Ethos and Profession of Intelligence at GW University

“As a large government organization, eliminating barriers to action is a never-ending challenge for us, one that most of my predecessors faced as well. Porter Goss, who’s serving on one of our panels today, noted the problem during his tenure as CIA Director under President George W. Bush.”

Germany — Intelligence officials reject the idea of creating a European Intelligence Agency

“We don’t need a European intelligence agency or any other additional European intelligence institution.”

Bruno Kahl — President of the BND [Germany’s foreign intelligence agency]

BND chief Bruno Kahl

In recent years, many European leaders have floated the idea of a “European CIA”. Not everyone is convinced. And obviously, the spooks don’t like it. In a speech last month, French President Emmanuel Macron called for creating a European intelligence academy to strengthen links between EU countries. The European home affairs commissioner, Dimitris Avramopoulos, also suggested a united European intelligence system to help prevent terrorist attacks. On Thursday (October 5 2017), German intelligence officials rejected the idea of creating a European intelligence service. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

The Los Alamos Primer — Section I

“On Edward Teller’s blackboard at Los Alamos,  I once saw a list of weapons— ideas for weapons — with their abilities and properties displayed. For the last one on the list, the largest, the method of delivery was listed as “Backyard”. Since that particular design would probably kill everyone on Earth, there was no use carting it elsewhere.”

Robert Serber

Albert Einstein and J. Robert Oppenheimer. Einstein warned that the Germans were researching an atomic bomb and suggested that the United States do the same. Oppenheimer was the leading scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Image courtesy Wikimedia Commons.

This Day in History — October 7 2006 : The Murder of Anna Politkovskaya

“Who killed Anna and who lay beyond her killer remains unknown. Her murder robbed too many of us of absolutely vital sources of information and contact. Yet it may, ultimately, be seen to have at least helped prepare the way for the unmasking of the dark forces at the heart of Russia’s current being.”
