Remembering the Brussels Attacks — March 22 2016

“With the usual reservations, it seems to indicate that Oussama Atar is dead and, importantly, that the judicial investigation continues. It is essential to continue to try to shed light on this dark affair.”

Georges Dallemagne — Belgian Federal representative (February 28 2018)

“If not for the request by different organizations … Oussama Atar would still be in Iraqi prison.”

Jawad Al-Hindawi — Iraqi Ambassador to Belgium

CIA — Amnesty International on the Nomination of Gina Haspel

“I supervised Gina Haspel when I worked at the Central Intelligence Agency. I found her to be smart, tough and effective. Foreign liaison services who have worked with her uniformly walked away impressed. Out of all of the chaos coming out of the White House these days, the one bit of promising news is the nomination of Haspel as the new CIA director.”

Former CIA Robert Baer

“Gina Haspel should be subject to investigation, and the findings should be made public. If there is sufficient admissible evidence that she is criminally responsible for crimes under international law, including torture or complicity in torture, she must be brought to trial. Her nomination to head the very agency which has a festering impunity scandal at its heart – which she may have an interest in perpetuating – should be withdrawn pending this investigation.”

Amnesty International

Amnesty International calls upon President Donald Trump to withdraw his nomination of Gina Haspel to the post of Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). That, of course, will not happen. But her confirmation hearing could turn into a spectacular circus. Follow us on Twitter: @Intel_Today Continue reading

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy Arrested Over Gaddafi Campaign Financing [UPDATE]

“Sarkozy has to give back the money he accepted from Libya to finance his electoral campaign. We financed his campaign and we have the proof… The first thing we’re demanding is that this clown gives back the money to the Libyan people.”

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi — March 2011

“Sarkozy had a complex relationship with Gaddafi. Soon after becoming the French president, he invited the Libyan leader to France for a state visit and welcomed him with high honours. But Sarkozy then put France in the forefront of Nato-led airstrikes against Gaddafi’s troops that helped rebel fighters topple his regime in 2011.”

The Guardian — March 22 2018

March 21 2018 — Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy is being held in police custody over campaign financing. In 2013, France opened an investigation into allegations that his campaign had benefited from illicit funds from Gaddafi. Mr Sarkozy’s former ministers and a close ally, Brice Hortefeux, are also being questioned by police. Follow us on Twitter: @Intel_Today Continue reading

Former CIA Sabrina De Sousa — My Time To Speak

“Intuition and awareness are key survival traits when assigned abroad; they served me well given my current “hot potato” status in Portugal. As I walked in the direction of the waterfront where David was waiting for me, I sensed that my situation was about to change.”

Netherlands — Referendum on Spy Agency Tapping Powers

“Look at what Facebook, Google, Twitter and Tinder know about you, and consider whether you’re worried about the right things.”

Rob Bertholee  — Head of National Intelligence Agency

“Even though it is certain the law will come into effect on May 1, critics were able to enforce a national “advisory referendum” on the issue this March. With the government under pressure, the achievement of the Dutch intelligence apparatus is a very welcome PR success.”

Max Smeets  — Postdoctoral fellow in cybersecurity at the Center for International Security and Cooperation, Stanford University

CIA Press Release: “Bipartisan Support for Gina Haspel’s Nomination”

“Obviously I am not an objective observer since Ms. Haspel served as my last deputy when I was director of CIA’s National Clandestine Service and succeeded me as Acting Director. That said, she is one of the most accomplished officers of her generation, having held a series of major field commands and headquarters positions…She has taken on some of the most demanding and least rewarding assignments in the War on Terror, not because she sought them out, but because she felt it was her duty during the time of greatest anxiety and uncertainty for the American people in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. She has a proven track record in multiple assignments of being able to work productively with key foreign partners as well as the FBI. She is extremely smart, strong and unfailingly honest. She is totally committed to the CIA’s mission.”

John Bennett — Former Director of CIA’s National Clandestine Service

The CIA just issued a press release to inform the media that there is a broad bipartisan support for Gina Haspel’s nomination to be CIA Director from distinguished National Security Leaders. I checked the date. This is no April Fool. Follow us on Twitter: @Intel_Today Continue reading

Remembering Gerald Vincent Bull (March 9, 1928 – March 22, 1990)

“The Iraqi don’t have air superiority over Israel. The solution they can have is the supergun. It has such long ranges, it’s going to hit strategic targets like Israel.”

Former Israeli artillery chief Avraham Bar-David

Gerald Vincent Bull was a Canadian engineer who developed long-range artillery. He moved from project to project in his quest to economically launch a satellite using a huge artillery piece, to which end he designed the Project Babylon “supergun” for the Iraqi government. Bull was assassinated outside his apartment in Brussels, Belgium on March 22 1990. The case was never solved. Follow us on Twitter: @Intel_Today Continue reading

Gina Haspel has been tapped to replace CIA director Mike Pompeo as the new boss of the agency, after President Trump fired Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and named Pompeo his successor. If confirmed, Haspel will be the first female director of the CIA, but there is some controversy surrounding her nomination. Many believe that Haspel is the wrong person to lead the CIA. Former CIA Robert Baer really disagrees. Follow us on Twitter: @Intel_Today Continue reading
