This before-after advertisement for Novichok perfume, featuring Yulia Skripal, was published in May 2018. Then, on July 15 2018, the BBC revealed that the nerve agent that poisoned two people in Amesbury was contained in a perfume bottle.

“Some are worried it signals that North Korean might be planning some type of operation, alerting its spies by sending the coded broadcast. But for that to be true, North Korean agents would have had to have been listening at the right time to take down the message, and how would they have known it was coming?

Numbers haven’t been broadcast for 16 years, so have agents really spent the last decade and a half listening just in case something came across? It is possible they could have been alerted that such a message was about to be broadcast, but then when why not send the message contents over whatever communications channel was used for such an alert?”

February 6 2018 — Frode Berg, a 62 retired border inspector, was arrested by Russian security service agents in downtown Moscow on December 5th 2017. He is jailed  in isolation at the high-security Lefortovo prison.

On February 2, the Lefortovo District Court in Moscow  ordered that Frode Berg should remain in jail until May 5 2018. Berg was allegedly caught receiving classified material about the Russian Navy that he is accused of planning to hand over to Norwegian and U.S. intelligence agencies. He denies the charges.

Update I (April 23 2018) — Berg broke his silence and now claims that he was duped into working for Norway’s national intelligence agency. Update II (July 18 2018) — On Wednesday (July 18 2018), Lefortovsky district court in Moscow prolonged Berg’s custody period until September 18 2018. Remembering Dr David Kelly (May 14, 1944 – July 17, 2003)

The death of Dr David Kelly in 2003 is one of the strangest events in recent British history. This scrupulous scientist — an expert on weapons of mass destruction — was caught up in the rush to war in Iraq. He felt under pressure from those around Tony Blair to provide evidence that Saddam Hussein was producing weapons of mass destruction. Dr Kelly seemed to have tipped into sudden depression when he was outed as a source for Andrew Gilligan. I do not know whether Kelly committed suicide or whether  he was suicided.
