On This Day — Terry Waite Is Released by “Islamic Jihad” (November 18 1991)

“I was taken out, blindfolded again, put into the boot of a car, then another car, and when they took the blindfold off I was with a Syrian intelligence operative, who drove me to the Syrian intelligence headquarters.”

Terry Waite

“A lot of people thought it (Lockerbie – Pan Am 103) was the Syrians. The Syrians took a bum rap on this.”

President Bush (November 14 1991)

James Baker: “What are you doing about the … group?”

Farouk al-Sharaa: “What are you talking about?

Baker: “Jibril. We know they are responsible for Lockerbie. What are you doing about them?”

al-Sharaa: “How do you know that?”

Baker: “We have the evidence. And the evidence is irrefutable.”

Secretary of State James Baker meeting with Syrian Foreign Intelligence Minister Farouk al-Sharaa. (Mid 1989)

“A deal between the US and Iran that involved the issue of Pan Am 103 is not an unreasonable hypothesis, given previous US behaviour and British and French ‘deals’ with Iran for the release of hostages.”

Dr Davina Miller — “Who Knows About This? Western Policy Towards Iran: The Lockerbie Case”

On November 18 1991, Terry Waite and Thomas Sutherland were released by the Islamic Jihad organization.  The timing of their release was very suspicious and many experts have argued that this was part of a deal with Iran to switch the blame for the Lockerbie bombing from Iranian surrogates to Libya. One Year Ago — Former Double Agent : “Self-destruction of humankind has been put back on the agenda”

“I believe that you will serve our common cause selflessly and courageously. I believe in the final victory over the treacherous enemy. This belief has given me strength. [The men and women of the SVR] must save the world in a situation when the danger of nuclear war and the resulting self-destruction of humankind again have been put on the agenda by irresponsible politicians.”

George Blake — Former KGB Double Agent

On this Day — FBI : No Evidence of Foul Play in 1996 TWA 800 Crash (November 18 1997)

“Aviation investigations are replete with accident scenarios that couldn’t happen. And given the lack of bomb evidence so far, neither scenario has been ruled out, officials said. First is the possibility that the doomed plane’s front section, which has a history of structural fatigue cracks and must undergo regular inspections, simply unzipped from the rest of the plane as weakened structural frames gave way.”

TWA 800 — Washington Post (August 1 1996)

“No evidence has been found which would indicate that a criminal act was the cause of the tragedy of TWA flight 800.  We do know one thing. The law enforcement team has done everything humanly possible, has pursued every lead, has looked at every theory and has left no stone unturned.”

FBI Assistant Director James Kallstrom (November 18 1997)

“The FBI didn’t want to hear about anything but a missile or a bomb, because otherwise there was no FBI case. Their conduct was disturbing from the very beginning.”

Chuck Grassley — Chairman of the Judiciary subcommittee on administrative oversight. Washington Post (May 9 1999)

“Governments lie. They do it all the time. And, much as we’d like to believe otherwise, the US government is no exception. There were times when we may have believed otherwise. But after Vietnam and Watergate, we know better.”

US Journalist Ted Koppel — “The USS Vincennes: Public War, Secret War.” –  ABC News (July 1st 1992)

Trans World Airlines Flight 800 (TWA 800) was a Boeing 747-100 which exploded and crashed into the Atlantic Ocean near East Moriches, New York, on July 17, 1996. On November 17 1997, the FBI formally ended its 16-month investigation into the crash of TWA flight 800. FBI agents concluded there was no evidence it was a criminal act. On this Day — Nixon : “I am Not a Crook” (November 17 1973)

“And in all of my years of public life, I have never obstructed justice. And I think, too, that I could say that in my years of public life, that I welcome this kind of examination, because people have got to know whether or not their president is a crook. Well, I am not a crook. I have earned everything I have got.”

US President Richard Nixon  (November 17 1973)

“I answered them (Questions from special counsel Robert Mueller) very easily.”

One Year Ago — Libyan Nuke Program Was CIA-MI6 Sting Op

“We were very happy the [Libyan nuclear] files were destroyed.”

Senior intelligence official in Washington, D.C.

“Washington wanted the evidence collected in raids on the Tinners’ home and offices, including computer files, hard drives, disks and documents, to be destroyed in order to hide their own stupidity. They are responsible for the spread of this dangerous technology. You cannot stop it now.”

Swiss Investigator

“I am quite astonished. It’s very unusual to see people destroying documents like this. They should be put somewhere very safe. The real question is how many copies of these documents existed. If copies were made, where did they go. That’s the main issue.”

Former senior IAEA official

November 16 2017 — The GUARDIAN has just published a long and seriously disturbing piece: How Britain did Gaddafi’s dirty work. This long-read article contains so many errors — lies, perhaps — that you will need to read it many times to see them all! Much of the article is nonsense and, of course, it accepts wholly and unconditionally the theory of the Libyan responsibility for Lockerbie and UTA 772 without question. Actually, the ‘Hidden Thesis’ of the article is that if the US/UK succeeded in disarming Libya, then the invasion of Iraq might be seen as acceptable after all. But Gaddafi never had a viable nuclear programme, except for the one that the CIA and MI6 were running with some help of a Libyan Intelligence officer. On This Day — Thatcher Names Blunt as the “Fourth Man” (November 16 1979)

“I believe she [Thatcher] did it because she didn’t see why the system should cover things up. This was early in her prime ministership. I think she wanted to tell the civil service that the politicians decide policy, not the system. She wanted them to know who was boss.”

Sir Bernard Ingham — Thatcher’s press secretary

On November 16 1979, Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher named Sir Anthony Blunt — a former security service officer and personal adviser on art to the Queen —  as the “fourth man” in the Cambridge spy ring. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY Continue reading

International Law — Acts of War in Cyberspace (2018)

“One of the big problems we face with cyber is that it hasn’t really been discussed internationally about what is the acceptable use of cyber-powers, where the red lines are and what happens when those red lines are crossed.”

Sir John Sawers — Former chief of the British Secret Intelligence Service [MI6]

“This has the whiff of August 1945. [referring to the US cyber-attacks against Iran Nuclear facilities] Someone, probably a nation-state, just used a cyber weapon in a time of peace… to destroy what another nation could only describe as their critical infrastructure. That’s a big deal. That’s never happened before.”

General Michael Hayden — Former CIA/NSA Director

November 15 2016 — Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) — the chairman of the US Armed Services Committee —  has said he believes Russia’s alleged interference in the 2016 presidential election amounted to an act of war. Most legal scholars disagree. What really defines an act of war in cyberspace? The US Military is currently working out its own definition. Follow us on Twitter: @Intel_Today Continue reading
