“The United States faces a toxic myth — mix — of threats.”
Dan Coats — Director of US National Intelligence (January 29 2019)
On January 29 2019, Dan Coats, the Director of National Intelligence, testified before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. The United States faces a “toxic mix of threats,” Coats said. His last comment caught all my attention. Follow us on Twitter: @INTEL_TODAY

Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, flanked by heads of other spy agencies, outlined growing threats facing the U.S., ranging from North Korea’s nuclear program, Russian election meddling, guerrilla-style terrorism, Venezuelan turmoil, Saudi Arabia’s human rights abuses, Iranian influence in the Middle East, China’s technological advances, and the on-going race by global players to develop a presence in orbit.
The year is still young, but I am ready to vote Coats’ Freudian slip as the lapsus linguae of the year!
The US DNI opened his speech with the following statement:
“The United States faces a toxic myth of threats.”
He quickly corrected by saying “a toxic mix of threats.”
On a more serious note…
The intelligence Director concluded his report with what he said was a very important statement.
The speed and adaptation of new technology will continue to drive the world in which we live in ways we have yet to fully understand.
“Advances in areas such as artificial intelligence, communication technologies, biotechnology and material sciences are changing our way of life,” he noted.
“Our adversaries are also investing heavily into these technologies and are likely to create new and unforeseen challenges to our health, economy and security.”
Since when exactly has the U.S. Intelligence Community been concerned with the health of the American people?
Could it be that Dan Coats was referring to the Havana Syndrome?
