On Wednesday (May 16 2018), the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee voted 10-5 in favour of  Gina Haspel as the new Director of the CIA.

The Senate Intelligence Committee thus recommended that the full Senate confirms President Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the CIA.

On Thursday (May 18 2018), the full Senate voted in favour of Gina Haspel (54-45).

Six Democrats joined the Republicans in support of Haspel. Four of them are up for re-election this fall in states where Trump is popular: Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Joe Donnelly of Indiana and Bill Nelson of Florida.

The two other Democrats who voted ‘yes’ are Mark Warner of Virginia — the top Democrat on the intelligence committee — and Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire.
